Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 4th December 2010. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good Morning.
Hope you are all keeping warm and safe. It has warmed up here today and was measuring 0 degrees as opposed to minus 5! I know that is nothing compared to some but its cold enough for me!

I have had a busy week as I want to get organised for Christmas in case I find myself in hospital again. Im feeling much better about it all now and really enjoyed putting my christmas trees up yesterday. Im off shopping with the boys today to get them some clothes as part of their present. Then Im nearly done which is a huge relief.

So no real OS so to speak but I do plan on making leek and potato soup later and Toad in the Hole for dinner tomorrow. Im quite tidy at home as my dear cleaner worked her magic on Thursday.

Bitsy - I hope you got over the shock of missing DS. This happened to me when DS2 was 3 on a crowded beach in Devon. I imagined the worst and air sea helicopter was scrambled and lifeguards set up a full scale search. It was one of the most shocking moments of my life as one second he was there and the next he had gone so i totally understood how you felt. Anyway he was found half an hour later and was sat happily eating an ice cream at a booth miles away from where I lost him. We never go to the bottom of how he got lost as he was never one for running off but there was another person involved - God forbid someone had tried to take him as he was a stunning toddler with blonde curls. He couldnt really tell me about what happened but Im so glad that I alerted anyone /everyone and screamed the place down so may have stalled anyone with evil intents the instant he was lost. I was so impressed that the lifeguards and stall holders on the beach had such a well rehearsed protocol for missing children. Anyway hugs to you and your son xx

Have a lovely day OS friends xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    The holly and the ivy,
When they are both full grown,
Of all trees that are in the wood,
    The holly bears the crown:
O, the rising of the sun,
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ,
Sweet singing of the choir :xmassmile

    Morning :santa2:
    Christmas pud today :D

The scabbler is a fantastic tool, but I never want to have to use one again, lol. We've done some messy and dusty jobs in the house before, but nothing like this. As soon as I get rid of the dust, more is settling.

Not much happening here today. We'll nip down to the farm shop and order a turkey, when we get back I'll hoover and dust. Again :D

Molly I hope you manage to stay out of hospital for Christmas.
    Tru thanks for the carol.
I ordered my turkey on Thursday & don't intent to go far today, the fridge, freezer & cupboards are well stocked & I bought bread yesterday, the milkman should deliver soon as we have a little bit of ice here but the snow has all gone.
I'm knitting a white scarf this weekend & then that's me done, I'm swapping back to crochet & sewing as soon as the scarf is finished.
    Stay warm & safe everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

As I have been awake since stupid o'clock I have been busy tidying up and sorting out what I still have to make/buy for Christmas. DW is on and ironing is next. Need to hoover round but, it sounds daft because we are in a detatched property, I don't like to do it too early at the weekend because of my neighbour, comes from many years living in flats and terraced houses.

We had a tiny bit more snow here overnight, guess that will freak out my workmate and she will insist it is too dangerous for us to go out tonight.

Many moons ago in another life this was my wedding day, I wonder if the ex has remembered :D no snow that day, just very cold, I wore a thermal vest under my wedding dress :rotfl:

Not really sure what our plans are today, after the ironing I will probably do some crochet. OH says he should be back about lunch time. Need to ring the others at work to see if this meal is on or not as that makes a difference to what I take out the freezer.

Enjoy your day, keep warm xx

Mornign folks, well thank goodness its Saturday its been a long hard week. Wee bit books to do for Hubby then not going to do very much other than browse on internet for xmas pressies. Will have to do some cooking though, so it will be homemade soup, marmalade steam pudding and golden Custard for lunch and just an easy tea of toasties or baked potatoes. We left the heating on overnight for the first time ever and it will be the last - I cant stand the heat, eventhough it was turned down low. Might look at putting up the xmas decs today also and start writing the xmas cards.
Have a good Saturday, and stay safe and warm, hugs ti all who are having a hard time this week,

    Good Morning All

No more snow here and it looks like it's beginning to thaw :j

Have a couple of hours work on my 2nd job and will probably be in the office all morning catching up still :(

This afternoon will do some ironing and have a potter around. OH managed to go to work last night and won't be up till late today, we had planned to put the dec's up but that will be delayed till tomorrow now.

Think will probably be chilli for dinner tonight. Will try and do a meal plan for next week, this has been neglected for a while:eek:

Am happy now as managed to get a Asda delivery slot for the 23rd, normally use tesco but couldn't get one. So that leaves me the 24th for any items not delivered.

Cup of coffee is very much required now, have a great saturday.

Bitsy, I must of missed your post but (((hugs))) to you and anyone else who needs one.x

Morning from still very snowy and icy Newcastle.

Just up and percolator is about to 'perc' for my morning coffee. Got plenty of provisions in the house so am only thinking about going to visit a friend. We had planned an 'sleepover' at her place about 40 miles away in the days of sunlight and the only major hazard being rain. If the trains are running I may still go, she's a good friend and I really enjoy times with her and her family. :j

Pulled out the unwanted china last night to discuss with OH, said blithely that I'd take some to the auction house to have 'valued' before I remember that the car was still stuck. So, it's now cluttering up the kitchen work surfaces somewhat  but I'm reluctant to put it all back out of sight again.

Right, coffee perced and I will be perked up too once I had a couple of swallows.

    Am loving Shaun Michael Ryder!

Morning all - looks to be very cold outside. Heard on the news last night that Topcliffe was -19 degrees. Its not too far away from me, so I'll be wrapping up warmly again. Need to go out as I'm going stir crazy sat in the house with 2 DSs who are hyper and my OH who plays his computer games all the time. I'm thinking about going to Leeds as I'd like to nip into Ikea and we're equal distance from Leeds / Newcastle. Thought if I went south.......

Bitsy - My heart would have been in my mouth - glad that nothing untoward happened. Lots of hugs coming your way.

If the DSs play up today I will wrap them up and put them in the garden to build snowmen - a whole flipping family of them if needs be! Have got Christmas decs out, but need to have a look through them and see what we have and if I need to make anything quickly! Don't know where I'll put the tree - perhaps a quick trip to the nearest Hobbycraft would help....... Nearer than Leeds and it would keep me busy too. Am going to make a huge pot of soup this weekend and have that going all week as I've told the boys we need to eat soup first to keep the cost down of the main meals! Now they're asking for it which is good news. Had to laugh at my youngest - when we went to Tesco for him to choose his party snacks he chose his favourite - Value range - I was sooo proud of him!

Right - off to get OH out of bed and then to plan what to do today. Take care in the snow everyone. xx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Molly, it's much warmer here too, 2/3C? The slight rain is melting the snow on the pavements :j
    esmf72, you're teaching DS well!
It was a friend's 21st last night but so few people made the night out because of the weather, we're trying to organise a surprise party for this week :D

Work are having the christmas meal/party tonight, I'm quite looking forward to it but not so sure I'll be wanting to go to the club, after the pub after the meal after drinks at work... go home and curl up to OH for warmth. OH was driving me nuts yesterday, we wanted jacket spuds with dinner but he refused to eat small ones, he wanted to walk in the snow to buy a big potato! In the end I dug through the bag to find him two big ones and he reluctantly ate them... (baked, not raw :D)

    Morning my lovelies :D

Thanks for the hugs guys. H came home and I started explaining what had happened and he got narked at me and we had words :( Like I didn't feel bad enough about what had happened already. He did later apologise but it's made me think of his reaction to me if God forbid something really awful happened out of my control :(
I just don't know how it happened, it was after the main bulk of kids had gone so it's not like it was too busy for him to see me. Does make well up think of him crying, thinking we'd gone without him. Anyway I hope it's drummed into him about his running ahead all the time (which is something I have an endless struggle with) so perhaps there is something postive to take from this experience.

    Anyway moving on.
Had a good night out with my tap girls last night. When we left it was a blizzard  which wasn't forecast but what piddly bit of white stuff we've had is melting so I hope temps are raising where you guys are with significant amounts.
Plans for today are to make some leek and potato soup, make some cards and generally try and keep on top of the mess that gets created at weekends :o

Off out again tonight will try and rustle something up from the freezer for H.

Stay warm and safe. Hugs, spoons and high fives all round. Have a good day OS or not.

    Edited to add this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RC34N1TfCQ I love this carol, especially when sung like this, feels haunting :D
I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife :D Louise Brooks
