  • When a third party is selling a reputable product such as Orange airtime. One presumes that the company has been well vetted. The deals were not to good to be true. Would you include a company such as car phone warehouse in your statement as they are the same & offer the same sort of discounts on behalf of the major airtime providers.

You should never make that assumption - do you assume that coke-cola is vetting your corner shop?
The deals were not to good to be true.

Which is why the business folded?

Yes in as far, as I'd be aware of what I was actually signing up for - if CPW go belly-up, orange have no liability in regards to the inducements that CPW offered to get me to sign up.

It really goes down to this, when signing a cash-back deal, you have to ask yourself "Could I afford this if the cash-back actually never arrived?"
  • I can't beleive this allowed to happen!! They are running a scam surely. I understand that one firm goes bust and another rises from the hot ashes, but surely the likes of Orange, O2, 3, Vodafone etc check into the history and can see that these companies are just ripping people off. With Excell obviously running a sinking ship how long will it be before thousands of Premier Phone Shop customers get stung in the same way.

You guys are missing the point.

Orange have standard plans. An intermediary comes along and agrees to sign you up to an Orange plan and then rebate you some of the commission they get for signing you up. (I am assuming that this is the way in which the deal was agreed - it was when I ran a contract for 100+ mobiles with an intermediary who didn't go to the wall )

Now that rebate has nothing to do with Orange - it's between you and Excell or whoever. Now if the intermediary goes bust, then Orange are still fulfilling their part of the bargain.
  • Someone asked if companies like Carphone Warehouse would get lumped in the same boat as Excell. Of course they would - they're 3rd party dealers - but it could be argued that someone like Carphone Warehouse is less likely to go bust than a little 2-bit mail order operation like Excell.
  • Hi All,
It isn't just Orange customers affected - I used to be with Orange and transferred to 3 some years ago; Excell contacted me, came up with a brilliant offer and...you know the rest.
Does anyone know if the Administrator has given contact details to make a claim yet?
    Peter.

If they refuse throw in that you want a deadlock letter...

They will say to you if we reduce your tariff then you wont be able to reclaim cashback..apparently excell are being taken over by PremierPhones but premierphones = Excell same people same company same building diff name....So i wouldnt trust them at all... :T stick it out direct with orange for now

Today orange offered me a reduction from £75 to £40. Not sure what to do as they told me I would then not be illegiable for anything from the administrators???
  • Well done on getting your tariff reduced. Quite a lot of people have said that Orange have done a 180 and reduced their tariff but the Webologist page has been taken down.

I understand people who don’t think Orange have any responsibility. Of course though most people aren’t aware of the 7 clauses of Ofcom’s General Condition 23 which it violates.

What’s not debatable though is Oranges ethical responsibility. I would like to think that Oranges newfound willingness to assist their customers is down to this, rather than the realisation that 8000+ unhappy customers with mouths and a broadband connection will cost them more than a few tariff reductions.
