    Something is clearly wrong when so many experienced people have been treated so badly! Maybe it depends on the area you work in. Who knows? One thing is sure the recruitment by CRAPITA has been a total shambles - I wonder how much the tax payer has had to pay for it ? It should have been left to local authorities to do their own recruitment.

    Maybe it's because people usually come on to forums like this to complain. There are probably thousands of happy census workers out there!

    I'm another happy camper (so far!). Applied in Jan, did siftability and passed a couple weeks later. Telephone interview offer about 4 weeks later with interview a week after that. 5 weeks later (was longer than the 2-3 weeks quoted) and I got my conditional offer. Completed online training and I've got the details of my classroom training in 3 weeks time.

    I don't start til 9th May so everything so far has been done in a timely manner. There is still time for it to go horribly wrong though :p
  • I'm happy, I picked up my first workload today, have spent all evening working out my best routes as the house numbers are not all in the right order within the roads, hopefully this will save me quite a bit of time for when I hit the streets tomorrow at about 3pm. I'm pleased the next few days are set fair weather wise too, I'm planning on wearing a t-shirt, smart shorts and walking boots - who knows, I might even get a bit of a suntan in sunny Southend!
  • Just an update, still didn't hear anything. I'm down for 37 hrs a week so its a lot of hours to miss out on. I will be concerned (.....off) if my co ordinator hasn't got me on their list - they have had eveything since my class training. I am really hacked off with this as I've been out of work for 2 1/2 years and registered with the census since Jan 2010. I hope they have their best people on the phone at 8am tomorrow. :mad: Sorry for the rant, the big day came and went.

    Friday!! :mad::eek:

    we're supposed to be doing 16 hours this week on the street and I had no intention of killing myself working 8 hours plus travel plus paperwork on saturday and sunday.

    Husband thought he saw a census collector on the way home from work - he slowed right down and was about to accost the woman when he decided she might not be census her yellow vest didn't have census written on it, nor her satchel , poor woman probably thought he was a kerb crawler.

    I am so annoyed I can't eat!

    You minus the hours you were at your induction out of the 16 hours as well.

    another happy camper signing in. maybe we can get all 29,000 to do so? just for a bit of balance, of course :A

    the weather could actually be a bit of an issue, as we could be out from 2pm thru till 9. but my area isn't too far from home so i can pop back when it cools off and change.

    I'm sorry to hear that so many people are having trouble. I started as a collector today and have enjoyed doing a few hours work this afternoon....after the months of unemployment I've had it feels good to be doing something at last.

    Not filled with confidence with my co-ordinator though I must admit....so I was wondering if there were any co-ordinators here who had time to PM me so I could ask a couple of questions?

    Thanks in advance and good luck to all you other collectors out there!

    I'm happy to answer your queries if you want to PM me - I am a co-ordinator.
