a question for anyone who has been paid - maybe a special enumerator or coordinator?

are the payments through a bank on the faster payments network so that the money arrives same day/next day? or is it through the old style slow payment hence 3-4 working days? just want to try and work out cashflow.

It sounds like there are a lot of aggrieved people here who have been messed around badly

i'd guess if everything has gone smoothly you aren't too motivated nor have a reason to post on here.
  • I discovered lots of posts on other forums where people are refusing to complete the forms and some sound angry/enraged at the intrusion into their private life.

They may have something to hide but if you are a female census collector be careful.
 Wisdom doesn't necessarily come with age.
Sometimes age just shows up all by itself ;)

In the end, it's not the years in your life
that count....it's the life in your years :D

I am due to attend a training session on tuesday, but am unsure whether to withdraw or not. I have been allocated a particular dodgy area and have been given 15 hours, but as a single mother am wondering just how flexible these hours are?? And what would happen if I couldn't do the required 15 hours a week??

Any advice would be gratefully recieved

If there are any worries about an area and particuraly if it is known for trouble, then you can ask for your co-ordinator to go with you, or pair up with another collector.

I am an early collector, and at the moment I am having to work more to the times needed by the co-ordinator. I was speaking to her about this today, as I am trying to juggle things around the kids, without having to pay for child care. Once the actual collection starts she said basically we get given our work load, and it's up to us when we work the hours as long as it gets done and at least 60% is evenings and weekend. So if you want to work long days you can get your work load done in a couple of days or if you want to do a couple of hours each day you can do that as well.

I think it is all too easy for people to say 'don't bother', when they don't even have any idea what the work entails.

    Pay is by bank transfer.
You get paid on a friday, weekly, in arreas.
You submit your timesheet online on the friday and your pay is credited to your bank account the following friday.
    Same for your expenses.

i understand the payment is made on the friday. but you're saying it actually arrives in your bank ac on the friday, not 3-4 working days later?

thanks, that helps with the cashflow planning. i presume the 2 fridays which are public holidays will mean the money arrives in the next week.

I know all too well what it entails as I have been doing this type of work for over 12 months, in peoples home asking very intrusive questions on MR for government bodies, so have far more expereience than you have in jsut a few days

from the tone and content of your post i would suggest you haven't got any idea what the parameters and ground rules of being a collector are. firstly we are strongly advised never to enter anyone's home, and i have absolutely no intention of doing so. secondly, we aren't going to be asking any intrusive questions.

have you actually signed up to be one?

I agree, the requirement is not to enter peoples home if at all possible and was advised on the course not to do so if you felt it may put you into an awkward or potentially problematic situation (this applied to both female and male collectors).

I had my course last week and still waiting for final confirmation. I was very "pro-active" on the course, following comments on this thread, but the trainer did say that he was not part of the recruitment process. However, as this is one of the few opportunities to see the applicants in action, I think it must count for something.

I'm on the reserve list and have had the email for to complete the Census Collector training and to send ID.

I've never had a full birth certificate and my short one has just gone on it's way to the passport office.

Also I'm having an operation on the 31st March and will be off work for 2-3 weeks afterwards.

Is it worth doing the training?
Here I go again on my own....
