Have any of the census workers been told when you will be picking the forms up? Is it on the Sunday, Monday or a few days later?0

Still heard nothing but not expecting to since I made a fuss about the disgraceful and contemptuous way have been treated and contacted my MP. Reading the posts it is extremely worryign that anyone is going out without ID, I worked in social housing for many years and we often had campaigns stressing that ID should be seen before letting anyone into a home particularly for elderly peple, this is very important and it is appalling that anyone is allowed to go out without their ID.0

Hi
I am a Census Co-ordinator and would like to put everyone's fears to rest about ID cards. The card that the poster mentioned IS an official Census ID card and will be linked to them specifically. As there have been some delays in getting the photo ID'sa out then we have been told to issue a temporary ID which has no name or photo BUT it does have a reference number which will be linked to the owner. So if one is produced then they can ring and confirm that the person on the doorstep is an official Census Collector.
Edited to add - Colledctors should not be going into anyone's home unless there has been a pre-arranged appointment or they have told their co-ordinator that they are doing so.

No you are not alone - I've not heard a thing either - it is pathetic!
Just wanted to add that the whole recruitment process to me has been a shambles. I applied back in september for a 5 month stint as advertised. I passed all the tests and kept getting emails to say I would here about the start date soon. I kept chaisng and phoned a couple of times. subsequently as I hadnt heard I started a part time job in jan. last week ( when I was away) I had 3 emails-one a firm offer with a start date but for only 4 weeks work. One asked for references but had to be ansered within 48 which I couldnt as I wasnt here. Before I coudl reply I had another email to say the offer was with drawn. After waitign so lon do they really think anyone would be waiting to take up just one months work and yet wanted us to do a 3 hour further online test?!? Shambolic and a waste of peoples time and tax payers money. Furthemore both myself and my son ( who has his own place) have doen it online so all that paper wasted, and will collectors have much to collect?? I suspect people will do it online if they can. Capita dont know their **se from their elbow it seems!!"Serious money saving Diva"........................................:p

It sounds like there are a lot of aggrieved people here who have been messed around badly and I really sympathise. It's awful to think you've got a job and then have it snatched away.
I posted before on this subject, just that I must have been one of the lucky ones. The recruitment went really smoothly (THEY chased ME up for the e-learning after I failed to realise there was a time limit on completing it) and once I'd done that it all progressed really quickly. I was due to start this Monday coming as a Collector but I had a call week before last asking if I would start 21/3 as an Early Collector. That was fine with me because I'm lucky enough to be quite flexible with my other job. We had a meeting Monday night to collect our forms and lists of addresses and there were five of us collectors there. Two kind of retired-age guys; one guy in his 20s who works at the university; a student girl of about 22 and me, middle-aged ex-teacher, now care home activities co-ordinator. So going by our age/gender/job make up I can't see there's any sort of bias one way or the other. Unless, Poirot-like, we have all travelled on the same train and witnessed something without realising what we'd really seen!!! (sorry, just being facetious) Only two of us had badges with their photos on, the other three (including me) have an official ID badge without a photo but apparently they are coming - nobody has made an issue out of this so far.
As Early Collectors we are, in the main, checking what seem to be HMOs to find out whether the census form has been delivered and that the householders are OK to fill it in. That's all I've been doing. All of mine have been student houses (this is a 2-university city) and they have all been polite, sweet and well-mannered. If I have met anybody vulnerable I didn't realise it. I'm just on the doorstep, standing well back, being polite. It isn't onerous and the lovely weather makes it really enjoyable.
Like I said, I've probably been really lucky but I honestly don't think there's any kind of age/gender/race/IQ/occupation bias. I taught but you don't need any relevant experience that I can see, or even a great deal of brain power!
Hope this puts your minds at rest a little0 -
I am due to attend a training session on tuesday, but am unsure whether to withdraw or not. I have been allocated a particular dodgy area and have been given 15 hours, but as a single mother am wondering just how flexible these hours are?? And what would happen if I couldn't do the required 15 hours a week??
Any advice would be gratefully recieved0 -

If I were you I would not bother. I have just spent 12 months doing Market Research , iinterviewing in peoples homes, which included one very dodgy estate, and you are very vulnerable. Its now worth you worrying about it and putting yourself in that situation for 15 hours and as a single mum ( me too alhtough he is adult now) . They wont be flexible hours and they dont pay enough per hour espeically if you already know its a bad area. all the best!:)"Serious money saving Diva"........................................:p
