Census Jobs

Well that wasn't too bad! I was imagining a long day but three hours in we'd done three postcode areas and needed new property listing books, so we had to knock off. Two postcodes left to list tomorrow then that's the listing done. I also did three surveys today. :T0

In 7 hrs we managed to do 10 postcode area each with an average of less than 2 properties in them, only another 30 post code areas to do. Managed to do a few interviews while we were at it. I see the collectors took their weather with them when they finished. We had hail wind rain and thunder yesterday, boots and a 4x4 today I think.0

lil-me...I know it seems a pain about not being able to fit your hours in but I wouldn't complain too much if I were you. Sounds like you are able to make them up the week after.
With the collecting job, we weren't allowed to carry of hours over, so if you didn't fit them in one week (even if their fault), you lost them. Also, those of us who started late, had their hours pro-rata-ed so even if your contract said 37/25/15 and you had a start date of the beginning of the week but due to the admin side of things, they weren't ready...you were only allowed to book a fraction of that.
I was due to start yesterday (and cleared my schedule) but have been told it probably won't be until the end of the week now. Here's hoping they will me make the time up next week too.
Glad you are enjoying it everybody..it was hard to get a feel for it from the training. How are interviewees responding..? Are they positive about taking part?0 -

Uh, yes I am allowed to make them up the week after, but I have another 25 hours of census work, plus 4 days of my normal full time work to fit in! I'd carefully worked out that I would be fine to fit in the hours as I'll be doing most of my hours at the weekends.
The contract says 9th May (Monday) - 22nd May (Sunday) 25 hours per week. So I assumed I had 4 full days at the weekends plus the 3 days of A/L I've taken to fit in 50 hours. Now I have 5 days to fit in 50 hours which is a significant difference.
It's a slippery slope if I carry over hours this weeks, as I'll end up doing the same the week after too. The timesheets are broken for me too so I can't see what they say.0 -
i take it all who answered the email and did the elearning last week should've heard by now? you'd think they'd send an email saying sorry but all positions filled.0

Same here. I did work an extra ten hours over the weekend so I'll still have money coming in for the next two weeks.looking-up wrote: »Glad you are enjoying it everybody..it was hard to get a feel for it from the training. How are interviewees responding..? Are they positive about taking part?

The second person I spoke to was very angry. She works night shifts. It was a bit frustrating as she kept asking me what the point was, then three words in interrupted so I never did manage to tell her. At one point she said "I'm sorry I'm being so rude." Well... you could always stop? After many apologies for waking her up she said we could try her a week on Friday, I'll be sending my partner along to that one. To be fair she's probably a pleasant woman usually, she just doesn't like being woken up. It's difficult to gauge when is the best time to call really, if that's the response I get in the afternoon I'm a bit nervous about doing late evenings.
I only went and got sunburn yesterday.0 -
We managed to get all our property listing done yesterday and 7 interviews completed.
It is the usual slightly disorganised census way, as our team leader spent most of the day trying to find extra leaflets for everyone to distribute as we haven't got enough of them for every household and the property listing books are no where near big enough for all the properties.
It's early days but so far I'm finding that people are less receptive to this than the collecting mainly because they have completed their form so why are they being bothered again, very different to bothering someone because they haven't done something.
As for the weather I've kept my collecting weather for now and it's lovely and sunny here again today, so I'm off for another day of door knocking! One day I will be debt free and fat free!:grinheart0 -
Does anyone know if the ONS will still need to employ more people after the census? Just wondering how all the information gotten from the census questionnaires will be stored.0

After 2 eight our days my partner and I have manged to find 41 properties and carry out 18 interviews - travelling approx 90 miles each day.
I have only had 1 direct refusal from a householder- all of the other props are farms and they have been fine once they have finished wit the sheep chickens or cattle. Had no hassle from dogs or other animals except for trying to stop the sheep escaping while trying to close gates after driving through them. All in all a great time has been had by all.0
