Freegle them0

I agree - advertise them on freegle to anyone who will pick them for you, and maybe at the end of the season someone from there will want to dig up the canes and take them away for a transplant too!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

oh no I'm just waiting for our first ones to ripen for DS3 he's so excited just hope they're a different variety to yours do you know which ones you got? We have Allgold0

Thanks for the replies, not had much success with freegle up to now but will give it another go as hate to waste the plants.
Sorry D&DD I don'tremember the variety just that they are yellow autumn fruiting.0 -
Joan J is an excellent red autumn fruiting variety with huge juicy fruits and a good flavour. Autumn raspberries are more fragile than smmer ones though, they don't store at all well and need to be eaten on the day of picking.Val.0

Can I just say - please don't make gardening decisions just based on this year - it's been a rubbish year and these were in their first year of fruiting.
Get some free from someone who already has some [they will probably be digging up and getting rid of suckers as rasps send out loads every year] and get them for free. Joan J is a great autumn rasp as mentioned - we are getting a pound of them each week at the moment. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
Agree with the Joan J, I have these and they are yum! With 10 canes fruiting at the moment, I'm picking 2lbs a week. And making lots of jam!
I only planted them last year, have been delighted with the yield this year :-)0 -
Sorry to hear your raspberries haven't been a success this year. As others have said this year has been bad. I've had three marrows from three plants and the immature ones keep rotting on the plant:mad:. My tomatoes got blight:mad:. Lettuces have been very few and runner beans have only just got two flowers on!
A couple of years I got some raspberry canes from Freecycle and they are flourishing, whereas the ones I got from a nursery died! If I were you, I'd wait until next year until making a decision about wanging them especially as it's their first year.0 -
My other autumn fruiting ones are going mad too this year not sure which variety they are freebie from last years gardening mags
I reckon a couple more days and we should be able to start on the yellow ones but I got them cheap 5.99 for 10 canes sure they were priced wrong lol so will see0 -
ive merged this with our OS disasters thread - don't let it get you down
