Oh Rosalie-Lavender, that is priceless. It really beats my knicker-leg-in-armhole.
My first experience with an electric sewing machine was a bit of a disaster too. I hadn't realised how sensitive it was and watched in horror as it streaked across the skirt I was making with the teacher shrieking,"Take your foot off". That was a whole morning's unpicking.
Not my mistake but when at college the lecturer was getting us to design children's clothes. She wrote on the board, "A simple child's dress," which appeared in every student's notes as,"A dress for a simple child."

  • Well things were going well with cooking from scratch. Last night decided to have a tomato and onion omelette for my tea. Once bottom cooked decided to put pan under grill to set the top- was metal frying pan. Remembered to use oven glove to get it out turned to get plate out of cupboard and wen I turned round picked up pan with BARE hand!!!! Spent the rest of the night holding rubber disposable gloves filled with water and then knotted to control the PAIN . Can't believe I was so STUPID

I've done that myself. Last week I held the poker in my left hand, then used my right hand to lift the burning log up. Ended up with burning embers under one fingernail. That was a first for me.

Burns are so terrible. I hope you feel better today.
  • Got nice burn marks on thumb fingers and palm . Glad I had the gloves - taken out of uniform web going in wash. Filled 3 and rotated them in fridge to take the heat out remember thinking to remember not to hold pan in hand and then did it anyway. Did enjoy the omelette whilst having a laugh at myself

Guess we've all done similar - but you do feel silly don't you. As well as feeling the pain! Hope it all heals fast - the gloves were a great idea, must remember that one. I just keep my hand under running cold water and then get fed up standing there and stop too soon!
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!
  • Ouch burns are so painful. The gloves were genius!

It must have been the night for it.

I managed to set fire to the kitchen scissors last night and just watch them burning. I wanted to adjust the gas hob, when it gets crooked or blocked the gas doesn't come out of all the holes. Mental though process:scissors have metal blades, I can poke those into the gas flames and wriggle the cover thing about a bit until the gas is coming out on full. Oh look, something on the scissors blade has caught fire, must have had a drop of grease on it, never mind, it'll go out in a second or two, keep wiggling it. Hmmm.. I can smell nasty burning (lifts scissors out to stare at them, on fire) why would a bit of grease burn that bad?

BLINDING REVELATION AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS OF STARING AT THEM, PUZZLED: OMG the really chunky obvious thick black plastic handles continue right the way down the blades and they are meeelttiiinnggg- (blows out flames). How did I not notice that before?

You poor thing, that sounds like a biggy and must be v painful.

I have had more cooking burns than I care to mention really. I have scaled myself, burnt my whole hand once by putting it on a hotplate on hob when it was on full whack. A few years ago I set my sleeve on fire making pancakes and burnt my entire forearm so the skin hung off. Last week, I set my boob on fire! I was drying my hair with a hairdryer and wearing a fleece dressing gown... it just started steaming, melting and disappeared in front of my eyes!!! (I hope one of these might make you smile, I have had a lot of silly burns, but they have all healed well)

Are you managing to keep your hand clean? Have you had it bandaged properly yet? I wouldn't have thought of tying a rubber glove filled with water to my hand, that's an ingenious idea. Did it keep you hand cold enough? I would always stick my hand under s running tap for 30 minutes till it's numb, just to be sure the inside of the burn is really cold.

Best tip I have to make it less painful and scar less: Please do get yourself to the drop in centre/doctors/hospital. They have this cream called Flamzene they can prescribe, it amazing stuff it takes the heat out of burns. If they don't offer it, ask for it, it's not very expensive and really worth it. Get as much as you can and keep it in the fridge, it's great to emergencies. Makes burns less painful, makes it easier to move and they also heal a lot better so you will scar less. It's better to get it on there as soon as you burn yourself, but even if it is after the incident it will still help, you would normally use it for a few weeks after a really bad burn to help with reducing scarring. You can buy over the counter versions, but they are not as strong or effective. You may still need some painkillers with it if it is really bad, but the cream is a massive help.

It's probably going to be hard to keep clean on your hand, but it's worth trying to keep it bandaged, anything that gets stuck in a burn only makes it more painful and take longer to heal.

Good luck with your hand, it's a **** of a place to have a burn or a blister, I feel for you, but it should be ok if you are patient with it.
So so SO tired of being ripped off, and mislead
    Hope sharing saves some pain.

Ouch .....sounds like you got a sore one!!

I tend to burn my tongue alot simply because im so greedy and need to lick cooking food alot which has a tendancy to be uber hot.

Food never tastes as good with a sore tongue either so i ruin it for myself.

Hope your hand aint too bad today ....fingers crossed you dont get a big blister :-)

  • Well today you can see the marks where I burned myself but no blisters so the gloves worked Just can't do the cleaning I'd planned as can't put hand in hot water. Oh well
