Have you got any custard - if so you could make some thick custard and turn them into a sort of trifle

Make up some runny icing with icing sugar and lemon juice, , pr1ck the muffins a few times with a skewer and drizzle the icing on top while they're still warm (warm them up again slightly if necessary). They'll be delicious :)

Or ice them? Or drizzle them with some sugar syrup (pole holes in the tops first so the syrup dribbles in)?

Snap! I'd use water rather than lemon juice with cherries, but same idea!

I'm normally a very good baker, but the time I tried to make sugarfree flapjacks was a disaster. I used splenda to replace the brown sugar and black treacle instead of golden syrup. They looked and smelt fine and the first taste was promising. However the aftertaste from them was vile. If evil has a taste then that's what they tasted like. Even DH, who eats anything, took one bite and that was enough.

Another disaster was when I tried unblocking the bathroom sink with vinegar and bicarb. That managed to form something approaching cement in the pipes. DH was NOT happy with me.

DH set poppadoms alight while trying to cook them under a gas eye level grill and took the whole tray out the back door and then dealt with the fire. I thought that the kitchen and DH were going to go up in flames.

This isn't my disaster but was told to be by my (first) MIL

back in the day, when plastic bowls in the kitchen were a novelty, her relative decided to make a rice pudding in one...

and opened the oven door to an inedible, molten mess. She had no idea you couldn't use them in the oven.
