Jelly - I won't go into the details of my story on this thread (everyone has heard it many times before) but a very good friend of mine ran a marathon for SANDS on Sunday. I echo your sentiments about the importance of the charity.
Like your son, my current baby is due in November though will be born early October (at the moment anyway) so I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you and your family.
All the best0 -
RedwoodBrook - Wonderful news for you, I hope everything is going well this time.
Yes, Sands if a wonderful charity, and I hope your friend did really well. I also have a friend who is a runner and he has said he would like to do the Cardiff marathon for Sands, which is so kind of him. It seems to me that the only people aware of Sands are those who have needed them, which is a shame, and I hope that by doing these sorts of things we will not only raise money but make people aware.Oh dear, here we go again.0 -

I couldn't have put it better myself. Stillbirth and neonatal deaths are far too common and you're right, the awareness just isnt there. From my own experiences, the pregnant women I have encountered tend to want to bury their heads in the sand and pretend in won't happen to them. I don't blame them, but if they are unlucky enough to be 1 of the 17 women every day who suffer a stillbirth or neonatal death they, like I, will undoubtedly wish they had known more about it.
Anyway, rant over. My friend did well as far as I know, she ran the Edinburgh marathon though I've no idea of the time.
I'm getting married in just over 2 weeks and all of our guests are giving donations to SANDS in memory of Felix in place of any wedding gifts. The money will do much more for the charity than it could do for us.

What a brilliant idea, and very generous of you. I'm sure people will not let you down and you'll raise loads. Something like this will also help to make people aware of the problem.
Congratulations on your wedding, hope it all goes well and you have a fantastic day. You have a very exciting few months coming up, with the wedding and the baby so close together you won't have time to catch your breath!Oh dear, here we go again.0 -
I'm so sorry for you.
My sister went through with a termination following finding out that the baby she was carrying had severe deformaties similar to the ones you describe. She was five months pregnant at the time. It was truly dreadful.
If you wanted to talk then please feel free to PM me.
Just read the update - Im so happy for you, I'm actually filling up sat here. I hope everything continues to go well for them.
Many hugs

Hi Jenny,
Well done to your son for shaving his hair for charity, it must have taken years to grow that length!
I had another thought, if he gets his hair cut a certain way he could sell it to be made into a wig. It doesn't pay well, but someone would benefit from the wig and the money could go to his fundraising. Seems a shame to just throw the hair away. I just googled 'sell hair for wig' and clicked the first link that came up - there were others!

Was very moved by your family's story, and thank you for taking the time to update us all on this post. I have made a small contribution via your son's page, and hope he reaches (or exceeds) his target. Best wishes. :A£2012 in 2012 = £34.440

We are so happy and have been preparing like crazy. Can you believe it???? Im just over 23 weeks now!
