Whereas I would sit in a comfy car, chose my temperature and entertainment and not feel constrained by missing connection times and be able to travel when I wanted - 155 miles isn't very far.

Choosing the temperature in my car involves opening a window and hoping it does enough to cool things down!

You can imagine that last week, I dearly wanted air conditioning in my car....the open window just brought warm air in and I looked like I had been in a sauna on the school run.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Depends on the roads, but 150 miles would take me about 3 hours to drive on a mixture of M and A roads, with at least one 20 minute break. I have a sleeping disorder, and whilst it's well-controlled, I don't like even to come close to getting tired at the wheel. Which reminds me that the old jokes are the best:

"I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather, not screaming in terror like his passengers."
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I;d definitely take the train - a good book and a cup of tea.

It's an interesting one this. I don't mind trains and would often choose them. Being one of the Hertfordshire crowd as a rule we are quite spoilt. We know we can go to Watford and get a train to Birmingham, Manchester or Glasgow; go to Stevenage and get trains to Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh; or go to St Albans and get a train to Gatwick. We can also get fast buses to most other airports. But crossing London with luggage:mad::mad::mad:. Earlier this year I flew out of London City which costs a fortune to park at (they wanted £250 for a week) so we had no choice but to take the tube and the DLR and the interchanges were dreadful (the DLR ones were better because they are newer and therefore designed for luggage and disabled people). Trains are great once you are on them it just depends on how much effort is involved in getting to them. I am rather partial to the tea and book once aboard though!

That sounds a much nicer option lir!

BTW, re the Rufus Wainwright thing, I think part of the reason I enjoyed the programme so much is that I liked the song a lot. I'm not sure I would have felt the same if I didn't.

Something I dislike most about here. Rail is near enough but involves changes, which is a nightmare and lengthens journey. I like driving into Gatwick, but its further, Heathrow always leaves me going around in circles a few times. Bristol is nearest still, but further than before. Its a nice airport, but the flight to Milan that worked so well for dh and I for so long living apart has been stopped so.....

I should look into southhampton I guess, for some flights. Before dog dog hurt herself and cost a bomb we were considering a driveover to France for a grocery shop...and mainly for fun. Rather have a fixed doggy though. :)

There's no way I'd try to juggle a flask and a cup on my lap on a train!
