II've always thought that the quality present should win out over the packaging.
In fact I abhor expensive over packaging on environmental grounds. There just are not enough holes in the ground to junk the stuff at the end of it life.

There is some packaging I will NEVER throw away. Especially now I don't get expensive stuff. I find cheap stuff packaging, especially food stuffs, more irksome as there is more of it and its all destined for the bin immeadiately.

Strangely we had a downpour at about 5AM which has made things much more bearable (still humid but no competition with yesterday) - I also feel vindicated as I went up on the scaffolding last night and noticed that where the builders had taken off the down pipe it would have discharged straight in to one of the new cavity walls, at the bottom of which it would have reached a steel and then had no where left to go but straight in to the original part of the house so I found a small section of downpipe and used it to divert the flow so it would come down outside the new cavity wall - and extremely lucky I did I think or we would have come down to a flood in the kitchen.

We've only had dry storms here so far, no change in the heat yet, hopefully later.

The really big 'markets' round here seem to be the ones selling knock off designer tat and pirate DVDs - not for me.

    Where did this get to?

    [Car number plate cloning]

Notified police, who have noted. Though OH hasn't been pulled in yet, so these numberplate cameras can't be that common.

Notified DVLA who have written to say that no attempt has been made to register another car with the same number plate, but they have noted the potential issue.

    Life continues as normal.

Hope you ticked off your builders.

No rain or storm here yet. You must have sent it in a different direction.

NEVER click on my ads - on the articles most of the ads aren't mine anyway.

QR Codes - a square "image" that people with smartphones can scan in - and it takes them to a website, or plays a video, or gives them your contact details. So you could set up every item in your shop for people to be able to scan the QR Code, which takes them straight to your website and sets a bookmark, or something. Or maybe shows them a video of it at a fashion show. Or enables them to join your mailing list by taking them straight to the form. All manner of possibilities.

I have no way of testing if this even works, but if you have a smartphone and scan this, it might take you to aforementioned article. http://i52.tinypic.com/9h2u0j.png

I took the Generalissimos to a museum here that had them which I thought was a great idea. Except you couldn't get a mobile phone signal inside the building.

Having an extension and adding lots of steel and shiny sided insulation to a house seems to really do in mobile reception. I think currently only vodafone offer an in home signal booster. T-mobile do have one but don't seem to offer it to non-business customers.

my mobile is more reliable than the house phone here. we have those cordless ones, but, and this is truely ridiculous, if I pick one up at pone end of the house I lose reception before the other end of the house. I think its something to do with thick walls. I'd prefer one that I could also get out into the garden properly with. Computer works happily in the garden, don't see why the phone shouldn't.

I'm all overwhelmed by domains again. About two weeks ago I thought I had it cracked... updated to WP3.1.3 and there was a new default template that seemed a great one to use. So I decided to put all my domains onto WP3.1.3 and onto twenty ten theme. Great. Did one, fine.... bit of configuring but I figured I'd roughly follow the sam "plan" for them all - and Bob's Your Uncle.

First issue: one host was playing up and I had to get tech support to "fiddle" with something to prevent me getting a memory error. So, probably most are now on 3.1.3.

Second issue: Using two hosts, one of them seems to have "fiddled" with the standard template, so it's ... well, another standard. Fine - I spotted this and know which one's best. So now got two sets of instructions for my standard build.

So, there I am, rolling out 3.1.3/twenty-ten across all my installations and I read yesterday about WP3.2 - and the new standard template that comes with it twenty-eleven.... but it's not available yet. So I have to continue standardising on twenty-ten before I get to WP3.2 and twenty-eleven once they're released. Twenty eleven contains at least two features that I really felt was missing in twenty ten, but I was prepared to live without for the sake of having a standard.

And late last night I logged into Adsense and Google were offering me the "new +1 button" - so, I installed that on my third host/very specific site and hosting, but now need it across all my WP stuff.

So, how much WP stuff have I actually got....? A quick tot up shows me I have 12 separate installations.... I think this could take me some time. And on top of that I still have to write articles, write blog entries, add stuff to my directory, write blog entries for 2-3 of those sites.

I know I'm doing the right thing, but the constant upgrades are becoming a pain. Thank goodness I'm at least able to standardise my build though.

Every site uses different plugins (functionality), but some plugins are core. Then there's the configuration of each one. But I've got a database of all the settings/entries, so at least I can look it all up for each one.
