I will def pass that one on to DD. QR Codes. Could you PM a link to your article (I'll click on some ads at the same time ) or can I find it easily with a google of QR codes?

Sadly, my brush with the battery fashion world over the past 2 years has been eye opening though. I kind of knew how it worked but had no idea how utterly ''battery' it really is.

I am somewhat out of my depth with this talk of "fashion" - as a bloke, I've always thought that the quality present should win out over the packaging.
In fact I abhor expensive over packaging on environmental grounds. There just are not enough holes in the ground to junk the stuff at the end of it life.

Enough of the one man campaign - I realise there is a huge market here tapping into (mainly) female emotions.

"Battery" fashion - does this mean mass production suitable for dressing "battery hen" type people. or is it something to do with electricity?

Anyway here is the BBC take on those "splodgy" new QR code stamps:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0122td7

QR codes are becoming ubiquitous. They are small black and white squares packed full of dots and blots and can be found embedded in printed advertising. What are they for; why are we seeing rather a lot of them; how does one use them?

(Actually they are not that new, I think they came from Japanese production planning to identify parts/sub assemblies and when you think about it they look like a modern derivative of a Chinese "chop". coming from a part of the world where school kids have to learn how to draw thousands of stylised pictures in place of an A2Z alphabet.)

    - As in "chop chop" that has passed into English as "get a move on (with the paperwork)".

JN is a strange one as it had been going for years. I can't really write online about some rumours that went about a decade ago (it always made massive profits all of the time whatever the weather ) but it was a 'bought product' led business so buyers went out and bought in from manufacturers ranges and plonked a JN label into it.
My view is it had no flair, no spark, no originality and the shop fits were dire. I am surprised it lasted this long considering the standard of stores it was competing against.....somewhere like River Island for example.

My DD is a good benchmark of teen fashion shopping and she, and all her mates buy masses online...hanging out at malls is no longer 'the thing to do'. One of the biggest high st supplier/manufacturers in the UK now has a massive online presence selling direct.
OK, the site only turns over £10 million pa so far but it is growing massively.........so, the domination of clothing sales by High St chains could be narrowing slowly but they still control 98% of prime shopping areas.
I find Boden very inspiring as a business model or Brora. Almost invisible on the High St but very popular.

Thanks for the insight fc. It's really funny, I never forgave River Island for taking over Chelsea Girl, changing the name (that bit was ok) but then putting the prices up. When I was younger Chelsea Girl was my go to brand along with Top Shop, and Warehouse for work clothes then I'd chuck a few more expensive bits in for good measure (Fiorucci, Body Map, Wendy Dagworthy, Joseph etc). I hate the cheap shops of now (Primark etc) as in my nostalgic mind the Chelsea Girl clothes were made better, though I think this may be my memory playing tricks.

These days Boden is far more my style - though I find some of their clothes a little square they are damn easy to wear - but a bit expensive for me. I often check them out in second hand stores when some yummy mummy has met her friends for tea in it and can't be seen again in the same this season's top.

cleared here too. I wanted a good storm. I had it all planned I'd throw the bathroom windows open and have a candle lit bath while it raged. :( I put the immersion on,i and a fresh towel for this sensory indulgence so I'll have a bath anyway.

We didn't get the storms, or the rain..most disappointing, we were almost willing it to but alas it was not to be. As a result, it is still very hot and muggy here and distinctly uncomfortable in bed (26 degrees in my bedroom as I type which is way out of normal, normally the coolest room in the house).

I expect it is cooler at my parents as they are just off the seafront and we a little inland.....
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

My outlet of choice was the market rather than department stores....I would buy skirts etc and just jazz them up, god knows where that spark of creativity went! :rotfl:

I don't know what's happened to markets. The really good ones that were around when I was a kid seem to have died off until fairly recently when the market appears to have undergone a resurgence. I particularly like it when the French market is in town with its massive selection of cheeses. We definitely never had such exotic luxuries when I was younger. A slightly edgy cheese was Edam back then.

Today it's a hot, sunny, cloudless day. Potentially going to be a 'scorcher'

I don't even know what day of the week it is ... I'm guessing Tuesday. Good job I can look it up on my PC systray.

    :)

Do you ever feel like bundling the boys into the car with some sheets and pillows and going camping out at the grandparents' house? It must be so tempting.

We've only had dry storms here so far, no change in the heat yet, hopefully later.

I don't like thorntons much :o. While Hotel Chocolate is booming I feel hard pressed to worry about the demise of Thorntons.
