GDB2222 can I catch a lift with you then :)

My house smells again :( I've really got to get the carpets out. when there is dampness in the air its just dreadful stinking. The longer we are here the worse it feels to me.

I want the thunder now...its so heavy its untenable.

Poor dog dog had a dressing change to day. Having seen her little leg I can't believe how good she is being. The wound itself is actually looking brilliant, but her poor little toes, from being in the bandage/split are sore and oozy and raw. Poor little brave thing. she behaved like a star, she lay down and reamined still for the 30 mins it took to change and inspect and didn't move, or squeak. she did sing a bit in the waiting room though and thinks its a social outing. She very much fancied a little poodle whose only just had the snip and so probably has some ''potential''. I told her I thought the offspring would be hideous to put her off, but really I think they could be quite cute. :)

Good behaviour when needed balances out the odd bit of cake theft really.

Generali went quiet.... I'm guessing he's not the proud owner of £42,000.

It's incredibly sticky here - no wind, very humid, and bloody hot.

What sadist would invent a security measure so hot and itchy?

It's not for me, however next time I'm on Jury service, I'll consider wearing a wig too. :)

It's nice in the winter - no heating system can do much to the giant stone building that is the Royal Courts of Justice (-:

One of my favourite barristers was a very traditional type, I remember seeing his face fall when a case got shifted to a judge who never wears a wig. He used to bemoan the lack of respect for dresscode and the state barristers arrived and left court in. He was a very kind and lovely man, and I'm very sorry not to still be in touch with him. Its nice when you meet people you work with who genuinely inspre you and win respect. :)

There's a High Court judge who didn't like wearing his - he'd say in March, "Very warm today, everyone may remove wigs", and take his own off.

It's not hot here, but it rarely is at the coast on a peninsula. There's a cool breeze and the fog's gone.

cleared here too. I wanted a good storm. I had it all planned I'd throw the bathroom windows open and have a candle lit bath while it raged. :( I put the immersion on,i and a fresh towel for this sensory indulgence so I'll have a bath anyway.

Hey fc123, when your feet touch the ground. Look into the possibilities of QR Codes for enhancing sales/customer retention. They're genius. I wrote an article on them this week (never heard of them before).

See QR Codes and think: tell a friend links, online store links, fashion show clips ... and open your mind to what they could do for you in a small space with fast moving clientele. I'm thinking "swipe/order later" potential for people who spot your stuff but are in a hurry.

I will def pass that one on to DD. QR Codes. Could you PM a link to your article (I'll click on some ads at the same time ) or can I find it easily with a google of QR codes?

Congratulations, sounds like an amazing week. I will be in SE today so I will picture you designing away whenever I see a bit of run-down riverside.

Put me down for a couple of dresses if you ever do children's sizes (it is my brother's wedding at the end of July and they would be ideal...)

If you have a moment I would be fascinated to know how the industry works - are designers 'hot' for a while before the 'next big thing' comes along (I guess a bit like the current pop music industry) or is it possible to build up a brand and following that lasts over years or even decades - or is that only possible if you are part of a big luxury brand with deep marketing pockets?

It depends on the sector as there are so many 'strata's' (or is that strati?) so to speak.
Most brands set up by individuals (rather than 'fake' ones set up by big corps) take years to get any credibility. Same as in music.

You will find that small micro companies like us have done all sorts of innovative looks over the years (but not necessarily profited massively, beyond earning a living, from them personally or managed to grow them) and then one day, they beaver away at 'The Next Thing' that inspires them and whoosh...it all goes mental.

We have traded over 24 years and I could name you 5 key looks that have grown from our work (and from other like minded people trading in the same field/arena) but it was never known that those looks came from a niche retailer/designer as the chains have ears and eyes everywhere. If they are lucky, they nab the look, cane it out and the ££££ for the originator then wither away so they go off and create something else.

I have no idea if our label (in it's current guise) will last but I do know we have traded for a long time retailing/creating original work and, though have looked over the edge a few times, have managed to survive...so there is no reason why, if this look dies or doesn't 'branch out' and diversify (with it's own signature) that we will just stop. Something else will crop up in my head ....and so the cycle continues.

    I do have A Plan though :)

Sadly, my brush with the battery fashion world over the past 2 years has been eye opening though. I kind of knew how it worked but had no idea how utterly ''battery' it really is.

The internet has many chains a bit on the run as they can't 'pass off' things as their own like they used to so will have to invest in a bit of originality at some point.

I think the saddest thing about the demise of indie retailing (on a street somewhere) is that we have way more credibility now if I link to where I sell.....yet we were just as good (better in many ways) when we retailed out of our own store....just no-one knew about it unless they walked past or wandered in. The Brighton store is still vacant too.......

I think it'd be easier to 'capture' a current age group, then age disgracefully with them, to get the brand. But you need to make sure your audience are younger than you, so the business/you outlives the brand, so can be sold off when you retire.... rather than your customers all suddenly wanting old lady cardigans when you're 10 years off retirement :)

I kind of think Next did that.

I am just having a self indulgent mid life crisis with mine :D..it's all the things I would wear now if I were 21.......as I had 1st child @24 there is a lot of going out/dressing up I never did...and certainly don't do now....the USA thing is odd too as I have never been there, watch zero USA telly/films and am totally unconnceted from anything U S of A at all...yet they love it.

Hey fc, good to see you online again! Didn't get a chance to say how happy I am for you and how things are moving forward.

Out of interest, what are your thoughts on the demise of Jane Norman? They always struck me as a store that had more people in than most.

The met office (or somebody like that) is warning of possible flash floods (more likely from surface water than rivers because the rivers are all rather low ATM). Meanwhile, New Mexico has a big wildfire. A friend of mine who lives in Los Alamos has just posted on FB to say there's a mandatory evacuation of the whole town just getting started.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
