When twitter does news, it does what it was invented to do, rather than pointless faff. As I mentioned before, I was living v close to Buncefield when it exploded. Back then I had to wait about 20 mins for Sky to suggest that a plane had crashed in St Albans, before getting it right about 30 mins after the explosion. If twitter was around then, I'd have known in about 2 mins and they'd have got it right. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? actually, he's home already. He got a train to salisbury and I drove down and got him. Expensive on fuel maybe, but such a beautiful evening. The dogs loved the trip in the car, and some one took a photo of them. I was a bit worried that I'd been found by an MSE stalker....in my dog walking gear and no makeup but hopefuly not.

Huh???

We got two of these machines about 2 or 3 years ago.
When the recycling centre first opened it gave points on anything you could get it to accept (Some wags on here worked out that if you cut a plastic milk bottle into pieces you could "sell" it for 4 points).
People were driving into Tescos car park with van loads of stuff.
But I timed myself - even if you get into a rhythm of chucking acceptable items into the machine, it is difficult to earn much more than minimum wage.
I did try bagging both machines but that was rather like using two toasters on opposite sides of the room.
Sooner or later you got something that the machine refused to accept.
For those who got drunk in the 1980's; how ever hard I tried I could not get the machine to admit that a "Black Tower" bottle was in fact a glass bottle. (After the first bottle, I could persuade my taste buds that the content was indeed an acceptable wine)
I guess that Mr T decided he was putting the local council recycling collections out of business and now only gives points on "Ali" cans and I see he has halved the points now as well:(
If Tesco was not so damned convenient - I would go back to taking the cans to the local scrap merchant. Not worth what they used to be even at 1 - 2 p each - the technology has mastered the art of making paper thin cans.
Scrape them along the pavement and you can put a hole in the bottom of a pack of cans in next to no time.
John.

I remember reading something about the problems that "The Scilly Isles" have disposing of garbage - everything packaged that is taken over there has to be returned somehow to the mainland.
Every beach in the world is now contaminated with flakes of partially decomposed plastic.0 -

Yes, the Scilly Isles have to ship everything in that they want - and ship out any rubbish. The Scilly Isles is like stepping back 100 years - you get off the boat, there's a couple of tiny corner stores and a pub and that's pretty much it for commercialism.
They don't have to MoT their cars though - because there's no facility. But you don't really need a car as there's nowhere to go. I think the tiny lane around the outside of the biggest island's got to only be 4-6 miles long
Lovely place - went once on a daytrip, but it's hellishly expensive to go (£30-35 return on the boat). Sometimes you can collect vouchers and get a half price boat ride - boat takes 3 hours each way and is a "basic grunter", leaving you with about enough hours to either visit Tresco or take the old-fashioned bus tour before sitting in the pub.0
