For a lovely hotel, Tresco takes some beating - however, it's not very MSE. Rather pricey, sadly:

I've stayed there!! Didn't pay for it, though. My in-laws went there 11 years ago for FIL's 70th birthday, and paid for late-nearly-ex and me to join them for a few days. It was very pleasant, but I've no idea how much it cost.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Guys, if you are interested in an Aussie alternative, can I please suggest that you take it to PM and then to e-mail as the site that can most easily develop this is the one you're kicking the idea around on and therefore could be your biggest competitor in the earliest stages...

I wonder if you can legally off shore it, as there are first world tax levels down under.
The joy of software is that it fits on a chip or hops on a broadband link.

Of course the servers for such a successful company would need to be in Aus but all those licence agreements and maintenance charges......could be away in the cloud some where.

Have you got your passport yet PN?

Real money in the .com business seems to be made by selling out to a larger competitor anyway and then making a film about who stole the idea..

No. I figured it he was going to do it he'd ship out some perky-breasted pretty young thing .... not me. So I figured I didn't need it :)

I always advise people to sell out. I was asked this very question once... 72 hours to make a decision over some pretty big bucks - and I was adamant "sell - you'll never make a go of it. sell and bank it". Which he did. And now he's in the same position again ....and selling.

    Kid's only 20 too.

    Isn't Tresco gorgeous?

In July and August, their cheapestdouble rooms are £150 per person, per night, dinner, bed and breakfast.

    .

    I've done that! :rotfl:

It was brass monkey weather when we were last there though. I was also ashamed, because my friend (then aged 73) went into the sea with his kids and mine, while I just stood and made encouraging noises. :o

For a moment there I thought NDG had written 'Tesco.' Ironic that it's probably about the last place they'll open an Express. :)

D4mned internet... trying to log onto the library to see if my books are overdue, or underdue.... I'm sure it's next week they're due.... everything's running like a dog. Probably I need another reboot.

Great, due the 9th.... now, I've no idea how many times they can be renewed... so am scared to renew them on the 9th in case it says "Nope - bring them back now" and I can't

Had two shipped in, renewed the set of four 5x now .... not read one of them once. So little space here everything's piled up, so they're hidden under an atlas, two lever arch files, two plastic storage boxes and a nice pendant I'm working on at evening class.

    :)

I can see them from here... although I might be only able to see 3. Can't tell unless I move the pile - and if I do that then I'm stuck where to put them as there's nowhere else... except on the top of the pile, but the minute I want something else they'll be buried again.

I know I should PM people with random stuff, but that needs effort.... this is with TomTerm in mind: http://www.phplist.com/?lid=348

Looks a fascinating project, I think I will sign up for that this week.... I need something to bung on my latest site and didn't want to go down the big name route as their prices get silly and their interfaces are baffling.

In the last few years, I've been to Tresco more than Tesco. There isn't one of the latter near us. So we use Waitrose and local shops.

Something's on my mind and I know I'm not able to sort it .... it sounds easy to some, those who have done it and in the know - or those who just talk the talk.

I'd like to find out who my mum's real dad was. All I have is a last name, a country he emigrated to, a rough date (guessing he emigrated across a 2-3 year span), the fact he had relatives in the road next to where she lived who had a daughter 'about the same age' as her and the peculiar 'fact' that he returned (late 60s/mid 70s) and was interviewed by the local paper as he'd done well abroad (millionaire?). Now, he's long dead, but I think it'd just be nice to find out who he was, what he did, where he died and when, to let her know.... so she can have some kind of peculiar 'closure'. I know he tried to make contact with her when he returned, but she refused as she said he'd not bothered before; but I figure he probably did send cards/stuff over the years and her mother ripped them up.

So I think it'd just be nice to find out about his life/death, so she knows.

But I am not the sort to be able to start/complete any kind of genealogical deep research projects - it's a full-time hobby for those with a stable income who already know their way around things really. Not for me.
