One of the civilised things about Australia is that dogs live outside. I had to point out to an English temp at work recently that the RSPCAA probably wouldn't take kindly to a complaint that a dog lives outside in Sydney and 'only' has a dog basket in the laundry. Most only get to stay under the house; laundry access is luxury.
Like dogs. Prefer them outdoors though.0 -
Hoping we can make a temporary repair... the drains outside out land becomes someone Else's problem on 1 October when they do the private drain transfer.
BTW - anyone with NFU buildings insurance, check your drains are not pitch fibre pipe.
fwiw this happened to my parents' drain pipe while I was there, short run to own septic tank. the temporary repair was relatively expensive....and VERY temporary. I'm sorry to share that with you, but best to I think.
edit: of course, yours might be a different cause and situation, I'll keep my fingers crossed.0 -
Yes, thank you - I did see that earlier, but if they play silly boogers, you have to complain to the FoS and they won't even look at the complaint for 8 weeks. The contract requires you to use their contractors. Sewage leaking into the neighbours property for that long is clearly unacceptable.lostinrates wrote: »fwiw this happened to my parents' drain pipe while I was there, short run to own septic tank. the temporary repair was relatively expensive....and VERY temporary. Yeah, I know, but we only have around 10 foot of the pipe on our property, and it is easily accessible. So providing we can make it to the 1st October, things will become someone else's problem.
On 1st october, they transfer all the lateral drain (the part not on our property) to the sewage companies throughout england and wales. The sewage companies will have to repair / replace the drain if it became broken again after that date.
If the entire run has to be replaced before then... well... deeply expensive is the word“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I like my dogs. I like spending time with them. They are outside when I am outside, but part of their job is to entertain me. If one is not a gardener/outsie person I never see the point in having dogs you see for say, an hour a day while you feed them and walk them. I don't like them EVERYWhERE in the house...dog hair etc, but now while I type they are in the next room, where I have a baby gate. we can see and hear each other ..and they are contained. Best of both IMO.0 -
The rain has stopped. I want more rain.
No, I need more rain. I dug a spade in yesterday and it had done an inch. Another overnight means another inch. That's 2 inches into clay soil....0 -

Yes, & most activity takes place around the kitchen table, which has chairs.
But a settee!
Us poor midlanders can't afford such large houses as you lot...;)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Our westie is allowed all over the house EXCEPT in bed.
When nobody's home he goes behind his Lindam baby gate in the spare bedroom, just to be sure...0 -
Psst, anyone know anything about stocks and shares ISA funds? I feel I'm waaay too much of an uninformed idiot to ask on the savings board
I'm looking at one of the co-operative investments (out of the hundreds of providers I've narrowed it down to them, don't know why), but then theres still about 8 to choose from?

sjay I've no real idea.
I have a fund with Investco perpetual. It seemed to do ok for a while, then took a hammering 2 years ago. Last year, it did really well in comparison to my cash isa's (£5500 got over £600 interest if you can call it that).
Because I've done my cash isa this year (fwiw!) I thought I may as well go for a bit more diversity with the S&S. However I'm also too clueless, so I'm just going to bash another 5340 in the existing one.
I have a minor cash flow issue at the mo. Once I have the funds, I'll go for it.
Know what you mean re the savings board btw. I read occasionally, but can't see me posting there.:oIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
