Surely Hertfordshire libraries should serve Hertfordshire people; its my council tax that is supporting them. Bit unfair if I want a book and its over the other side of the country!

I would imagine that in practice most people are from the council area, because if PN wants to borrow a physical book she would have to visit a library in Hertfordshire to pick it up. The benefit for Pastures is in joining a virtual library.

However I would argue that longer term it makes no sense for each county to have its own Overdrive system, it would make more sense to have a national one that people sign into from wherever and in which all virtual items are pooled. What happens in this respect is ultimately up to Vaizey and people at the top, not the likes of me!

It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Yes - they only added 3m and we are adding 4 plus gong for one big room plus one doored off room rather than the u-shape open plan they have.

We are going for a vaulted ceiling but only sloping up from the back to the existing rear wall with a couple of velux and then hopefully the rest of the ceiling will be flat without any steels protruding down to give our kitchen/family room that will be about 18x25 feet.

The rear extension is fun though - that might give you some ideas.

I really really hope they do not, I cannot stand reading books electronically...plus I cannot afford the means of viewing electronically.

Can you imagine trying to read from a mobile phone screen for a couple of hours? It would be a nightmare, absolute nightmare.

I would be the idiot trying to print it all out so it can be read properly and without too much eye strain.

I think I've already said it before on here.
E-ink is vastly different to the lcd screens so the eye strain issue isn't really one when you talk about reading ebooks on the correct format.

Also, there are cheaper ebook readers out now and like all things, I presume they will fall in price as technology moves on.

I think it's a no-brainer personally. I've had a kindle now since christmas and can see it being proper competition for the paper market. It's also (if you think of the lifespan of a paper copy) not as un-eco friendly like some other gadgets.

Its just a bit of an annoyance to pay 20% VAT on the ebooks.

I wanted a replacement for my PDA, and I looked carefully at the Kindle. However, there is no diary function with reminders. Surely, they could easily have added something like that?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

They could have. But the kindle is a single purpose device. It is a book reader. It is not a PDA despite the advertising campaign. Amazon designed it to be the easiest book reader possible.

That one room alone is pretty much bigger than the whole houses I've ever lived in :)

I expect my next whole house to be smaller than that.

You could ask for it by emailing the feedback team at amazon but tbh, my phone does everything a pda does and my kindle is used for reading. it's a bit weird to have a single use device but it does the job well.

Always happens. Tis a rule of nature. There is a sliding scale

    Windows half painted = rain.

Top floor windows half painted = gale

Roof off = gale + rain + snow + hale, all at same time

Walls half built, so vulnerable to tipping over = hurricane

    PN: http://www.hertsdirect.org/services/libraries/services1/services/howtojoin/

So after the rain stopped painting, we decided to clear the guttering, as we had the scaffolding up. Then the gales started. :(
