* Cookery books/garage manuals etc: again a bit of a moot one, but would you want to use your Kindle with hands with flour on or a bit of grease?
How does that ebooks in a library thing work then? I doubt they have that here.
Edit: I tried to look it up, got this page, but I don't understand what it means http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/Default.aspx?page=26831 but there was a link in there to ebookshelves on http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/Default.aspx?page=26318 where it says
"Choose from one of the following five shelves:- Crime
- Reading Group
- Britain and Empire
- Childhood
- Soldiers and Spies"

Alongside its physical library a local authority will have a virtual library. Working in conjunction with Overdrive, the LA will have an online catalogue, accessible via its library website, which library users can sign on to and download virtual items for borrowing. At the end of their borrowing period they can - depending on format - delete themselves from the device.
In most cases the virtual library works in a similar way to a normal library - the book you want may be out on loan and you may have to join a waiting list to get it. Cornwall does have a virtual library, but theirs is in partnership with Bloomsbury rather than Overdrive:

I don't want to run down the Cornwall offering, but compare that to the one where I live in Hertfordshire and it does seem a bit lacklustre in comparison:

Cornwall is one of the poorest regions in the whole of the EU, so maybe they couldn't afford the posh thing your lot bought.
Any chance of a ticket to your library then?0 -
Blimey - you even have cookery books on there!! Just (jokingly) looked to see if the Takeaway Secret was on the list .... and there's a great looking Indian Takeaway book there.
Edit: Oh, it's nothing about food... just some fool's life story.0 -

Absolutely. AIUI Hertfordshire allows people to join from anywhere in the country.
Though I do think that there is a wider issue in terms of access. It isn't right that the poorest area have less access as that's the whole point of library provision in the first place! Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? To join mine here I had to prove who I am and my local address.0 -

The weather is too London-centric. Londoners would go mad too if they got Paris-centric weather, yet they're closer to Paris than they are to me.
Always ask me what the weather's doing. It's bl00dy windy now
But dry.0 -
Just trying to join the herts library ... can't find out how/where yet. You'd think there'd be a big "JOIN" button.
Edit: Found it http://www.hertsdirect.org/services/libraries/online/joinlibonline/
Edit 2: Done it.0
