Nikkster thanks for posting this!
Really good article, & very true. Our team is on their third different green because the first was closed by the company who bought out the grounds, and the second green was sold by the council.
We've been at our current green for 3-4 years, & every year there is a rumour that the council are looking to sell off the land.:(
We are hoping that the decision the council has recently made to sell the leisure pavilion to a community project means there is an intention to keep the facilities.
The article is also very true i that participants of other sports like competitive stuff, & bowls is a leisure activity that maintains that competetiveness (I have seen many fights, head buttings and the like over friendly bowls matches!).
We did have a juniors team to encourage youngsters to play. Unfortunately, most of them have drifted away, but 2-3 of them are still playing!
We don't take pints onto the green though - indeed, never ever in 24 years have I seen that done. In our leagues, it is now against the rules to smoke whilst on the green.
Thanks for posting the article though, I enjoyed reading it a lot, & will share it with many people!:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

But everything is green again, and the grass has SHOT up this morning in funny patches.
I'm working through the thread, so apologies.
We had an absolutely amazing storm with thunder & lightening on friday night, combined with a lot of rain through the night, and also through saturday night.
I love thunderstorms, especially really hard & heavy ones. They make me wanna listen to Sometimes by James really loud!

There are two bowling greens here that I can think of, one with panoramic sea views - and 'they' tried to sell it off for new build flats 4-5 years ago and the locals kicked up (the OAPs turned out in force) and it never happened. There's also an indoor bowls club (no idea where that is though, only found that out as I was double checking how many greens we have in case there were more).0

Bored now. I've got stuff to do but it's not worth it between now and the school run. So I'm about to review the 26 properties I've saved on Rightmove again. It was 36 yesterday until I reviewed it. So I'll review everything on the market again and I will probably add things I removed yesterday or maybe some other houses I removed a couple of weeks ago. I've seen it all already, I don't know why I do it to myself - just in case I've missed some vital opportunity since yesterday.
There's one I quite like but I think it is overpriced and I cannot abide the agent. The very local market round here at the moment is a case of price it right and people will pay for it and snap it up, price it wrong and no one even bothers looking.
Buyers came back today with tape measures. Their survey is tomorrow, ours on Friday. I have a viewing at the other house in the morning so I need to pack up half my belongings and nick-nacks and ship it over there and then back again for Friday.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

PN, and others, where do you buy your domain names? 123-reg any good?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Ikea let you try their mattresses for 90 nights I think. I loved our old Ikea mattress. I think the Tempur people let you try it too.

I didn't like them. I was confused by their wording and site. I had to use them in an emergency last year when my host disappeared.... and upon investigating it the domain had been registered through 123-reg, so I contacted 123-reg, got a free account, transferred my domain name to me through them ... and then realised I didn't like/understand their site, so I moved the domain name on again.
I use 1and1 for 99% of my domain names, because I find it quick/easy to buy a new one. But I don't use them for hosting as they didn't offer what I was after when I was first looking. For hosting I use Reseller Accounts, I've got a few of those. One with bluehost and one with eukhost, as the main ones. They're both fine.
With domain name registration I'd say: Go with a big company you feel you can trust to not disappear overnight.
With hosting I'd say: Go for what you need, then pick the biggest company you feel you can trust.
In 2010 I had one host disappear, who also had my domain name, so I had to get my domain name back and move my whole site. I also had a hosting company buy out, new owners moved my site to a new server and it stopped working so they told me to leave as they couldn't get it to work, so I had to find new hosting again.0 -

Hi all. I've just got back from holiday. Did I miss anything exciting while I was away? What happened to the silverbugs and their houses made of silver, have they been a bit quiet? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
