I think I have the right to remain silent ... :)

Fair enough! I'm not precious about it, though, if you do loathe them!

    I've been Money Tipped!
In Kent, the listings lot insisted that new beams were actually new - to show the progress of the house. The beams are the same size, and same oak, but 700-odd years younger.

We'd be happy with new beams too I think, (particularly as I think I'll paint it to match the ceiling). we might have to have a new beam because of the size of it, smaller the beam more likely to find reclaimed. but for the fact we want shutters on the windows too....and I'm worried that it will jar...new beam with ''old'' shutters.

The progress of the house thing is odd....because that's what we thought from family/friends experience and um...Grand Designs ;) and the architect etc. But its not proved that simple. e.g. we're allowed to do that in th kitchen....which is a conversion of an adjoined building, but the ''restoration'' of the missing bit (which in other circs would be an extension) is the missing half of the Georgian symmetry....so its difficult to get right. Because of where it is in relation to the rest its the only room I can have a bit ''clean and girly'' with any chance of minimising damage. i.e silks etc. Its going to be ''modern chinoiserie'' if all goes to plan. Not like has been done recently in wallpapers, though I like that it would feel a bit forced in there. a bit ...more dramatic.

My paint tends to come from Homebase, the packs of tiles I have sitting around ready to do the kitchen (when I get round to it), came from a boot sale...so the last page or so of discussion has gone clean over my head!

Eldest went on a shopping spree today with his hard earned wages, little old mum here went on a bit of a rant when she found out how much he spent on a pair of shoes, phrases such as "How much?!!" and "They should blooming last you ten years for that price" and "You take after your blooming father" and "Are you mad? It's a pair of shoes", were uttered.

£56.99 for a pair of shoes! And there was me thinking he was a sensible lad, absolute madness spending that much on shoes.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I don't loathe them. They seem strangely familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. I just don't go for overly fussy decorations in things as I've no taste and if I liked something, then put it into place, it'd be a bad decision :)

And let's face it, I'll never be posh, nor have taste :)

You're probably right. I wander around day to day in £25 shoes and years old, trainers. But we went out last night so I wore nice shoes. Dog had a nice chew on my Louboutin espadrilles after I'd kicked them off. :( They should sell insurance with shoes like that.

I just want a little white house, with new stuff ... where there's room for my stuff and everything's just how I like it.

I do like slate floortiles. I don't want any carpets anywhere, rugs are better as you can take them home and put them straight down and if you hate them you can still afford to get another one next week, unlike fitted carpets turning out to be wrong :)

One big open plan room (happy to accept a dividing pair of doors); open plan breakfast bar; patio doors into conservatory. Utility. Large garage (double is hoping too much) and a nice shed. Off road parking for 2-3.

I don't like houses that are painted on the outside - as that's an ongoing cost and commitment, but you can't choose the outside, you're stuck with what comes.

That is a fair wedge for a pair of shoes, for sure. Unless they were proper, last-for-decades walking boots?

I had an 'awkward moment' over my shoes the other day, first time ever in my life. I was beachcombing and two 'terribly nice' ladies were sitting on a rock with a lovely mutt.... and as I was scavenging near their feet I felt it appropriate to say something about the dog.... which opened up a conversation.

Randomly, after 2-3 minutes, one said to me "Oh I do like your shoes, where did you get them from?" .... bit of an embarrassing moment. This area is all £1million houses and these ladies were exceedingly well spoken..... "Oh ... these old things .... er, about 10 years ago in Hawkshead, in the sale, cost me £8.... I just use them for beachcombing". They kind of zoned out then and it was clear the conversation was over and I shuffled off.

Maybe until that point they accepted me as one of their local "eccentric, but worth millions" types :(
