You can have some of ours if you like. It's been chucking it down for a week now. I'm looking forward to an English summer, the weather's been so bad!
The rise of the Aussie dollar is going to help no end. Mrs G bought £200 of lingerie from the UK on Saturday. It would have cost $500 not so long ago. It came in at $289!0 -
Its all very interesting: the weather this year. First year in this garden I'm hoping to get an idea of what's ''normal'' for this garden, and the frustration is I haven't a clue.
If it is I might be better growing cacti!0 -
The incompetency of education services never ceases to amaze me.
It should have been simple. I spotted a course I wanted to go on - and I phoned/booked/paid over the phone. Received the confirmation/letter. Errors are:
Two pieces of paper, one has correct course date/time, other has wrong course date/time.
The one that contains the number of sessions has the number of sessions wrong, the other one (where you can work it out from the [wrong] start and end dates indicates the correct number of sessions.
They've not actually told me where it is.... I need an address/postcode of where the course is; it could be anywhere within a 5 mile radius.
I also got some stupid leaflet about abuse and reporting it, which went straight in the bin.
So now I have to contact them to confirm the course date/time/start date and location .... things I thought I knew before they sent me this letter (except the address which was obscure).
And this is what these people do for a full-time job .... amazing.0 -

Ah well, pass the bucket, I'll have a go at flushing the toilet with water from the bath; perhaps we will have the water back on by lunch time tomorrow; and all I am doing is replacing a basin in a bungalow.
Well we went away for Easter and got back on Easter Tuesday. So it was Wednesday before I got the water on again.
What a struggle ! I think it must have taken two man days to lever the old basin out of the vanity unit and replace it. Obviously the nice new "Chinese" replacement was not the same size as the old one and worse the outlet pipe is about an inch lower. Lots of filing and then repainting of the exposed chip board.
Eventually I managed to find the basin equivalent of a shallow bath outlet; an old brass one. Cleaned it up and bodged it into position as a one for one replacement.;)
While I was at it I've invested the best part of 50 quid and packed the backs of the fitted wardrobes on the outside walls with "Celotex" - other PUR foams are available. Doing my bit for climate change???
[Just for the record the bedroom is 16x13 as against the sitting room of 16 X 12.]
My son used to have a typical Victorian terrace of 1878.
The plots must have been about 13 ft wide thus creating two up and two down of 12 x 12. Originally the "Front Parlour" would have had a 3' corridor leading from the front door to the rear Kitchen/Living room, so the remaining space for the front room would have been 9 x 12 excluding the chimney breast.
The stairs ran up from party wall to party wall in the centre of the house and carried on inside a cupboard in the rear bedroom to access a large attic room in the roof space.
A great design but no longer meeting modern fire regulations, as the foot of the stairs was a cupboard door in the living room.
A half width ground level rear extension leading off the kitchen/living room would have originally served as the scullery, with the back door nest to the door of the "outside" toilet - since converted to kitchen & ugly 1970's grant aided bathroom.
Give me a Victorian terrace over a flat any day.0 -
Still gorgeous here, just been sitting out on my new duo seat in the back garden (which my brother kindly put together yesterday)...youngest liked the seat too and came armed with books and juice, so we were like two peas in a pod sitting there reading and sipping (middle son decided sitting on the trampoline was much more fun).
Will need to get some cushions though, my back didn't much like the hard wood, so may get in touch with mooloo (a forum member on here) about getting her to make me some bespoke ones.
Had to come in after not very long though as I started to burn!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Still nippy here. Rain's stopped, but the clouds going over are grey and rain-like.
My garden furniture used to be four plastic chairs I bought for £1.50 and I had three big cushions (a back and a seat) which a friend had thrown out in 1990 and offered to me. I always promised myself a sun-lounger - and in April 2001 I trotted down to Woolies to buy one for £18. I can still remember walking down there and walking back with it - and then lying on it all afternoon on the patio. One thing I did discover is you can't sunbathe on a lounger - you need something that lies flat for when you're lying on your front, so at some future point (when I have a home/garden) I plan to pick up one of those thin loungers that go absolutely flat, I've spotted them at about £16 before, so they're on the list for "one day".
Just looked and Argos have that sort at £19.99 at the moment ... maybe in some future sale I can get one cheaper http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6510446/Trail/searchtext%3EFOLDING+SUN+LOUNGER.htm0 -

What are all these hubs you're on about? Is it like websites / blogs that you've made that forward you onto other sites? Who pays you, google? Rate of pay depend on visitors - traffic?! - and how many ads you've got I guess?
I was wondering about this recently, I was trying to google what I thought would be a very simple search, but, NOTHING! Thought, if I put this exact wording on a website I'd get loads of hits.... don't know how any of it works though. And now I forget what the frikkin phrase was too!

So, one person could have 1000 visitors to what they wrote and have 1 click earning them 1p. Another person might have a high paying subject and get 10 visitors and 2 clicked at £2/click. So, it's either hit and miss, or lots of research/work. I do the hit/miss approach.0
