Hugh de Payens? Unlikely to be any sort of provable ancestry, I'd have thought. Most of his life is legend, rather than history. He did father a son who became an abbot, but an abbot's not supposed to have children!0 -
So, DD is not yet old enough to hack into your computer and change the spreadsheet, Lydia? Time will tell, but it's good that you are giving her an incentive to become all techie. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

No. She is, however, old enough to be able to hack into my handbag and steal money from there the old fashioned way. But she doesn't. Appropriating any money that her big brother may have left somewhere is an altogether different thing, though.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

As it's hilly here I judge the distance to the top of each rise so I am even freewheeling over the top.
Freewheeling from 60 down to 30, where the next speed restriction is, can be tricky as you can't do it while anybody's behind you (or you're the mad old driver that was going slow)... but I even do that where I can.
You are burning fuel by freewheeling to keep the engine running.
Rolling in gear does not use any fuel.
My MSE tip of the day, but if you have a average MPG computer role at about 10mph then try it in neutral.
In gear you will show maximum mpg, you wont in neutral.
Really tip of the day.0 -
So here I am, 4.25am not able to sleep with an exam this afternoon.
Not a happy chicken.
My nights sleep did not start well, next door had music playing (loud) until the wee hours and that put the kibosh on me getting any kind of sleep! We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Just to be a nerd, but to be MSE you should not freewheel.

I'd need to get my head around the workings of this, and how it goes in reality..
Freewheeling, my car is turning over at about 700rpm. You are suggesting that if I engage the drive train, the fuel injection system will cut the fuel supply below that, or even to nothing.
I can understand that's possible, but I'm not sure I could roll as far in 5th as I can in neutral, but I'll experiment on the route down to the station, which I know really well.0 -

Aww, that's horrible.:(
My early training, sleeping on the floor of the Roundhouse in Camden during all-night rock concerts has served me well.
However, there are still times when sleep seems far away. Then it's whisky.:o
I expect you'll find there is a bit of reserve battery there, in extremis. Just go for it....and good luck!:)

The way I guess it works is thusly.
If you are sitting in a car at the top of a hill and need to get to the bottom then you need to use energy for 2 main purposes: propelling the car and keeping the engine running.
You have 2 sources of energy you can use: the petrol in your tank or the potential energy you have by being at the top of the hill.
If you put the car in neutral you have to use petrol to keep the engine running and you are using potential energy to propel the car. Alternatively you can keep the car in gear and use potential energy for both.
For the descent alone, the latter will use less energy however if you continue past the descent you will be travelling faster at the bottom of the hill as you've not been using potential energy to turn over the engine so will go further. Make sense?0 -

I tried again shortly after posting my message and thankfully, I did manage a few hours...have woken feeling like I have been hit by a brick though.
Next door's music, they don't very often play music that loud, in fact, I can't remember the last time as it was so long ago but why choose last night to do it!We made it!
