Things suddenly moving apace here. The new architect is just amazing, he's kind and funny, and practical and sensible without being too boring. we feel so much happier with him involved and already he has some drawings for us to look at over Christmas. The inside is going to be the interesting bit and not sure whether anything for this will be on paper yet, but the outside is just going to be exactly as it was built to look at the front, and only slightly altered at the back, so probably quick enough for him to have done.
Inside....welll,we still haven't had any bright ideas about the four foot high secret room......weird hidden panic room for people who hope not to panic? Relaxation chamber....not sure how relaxing sitting and crawlig around is, or lying with the ceiling so close! Cat room.....we could have a serious cat play ground in there.....or just storage. Seems a bit of a shame.

That's terrible... you can get it second hand from Amazon.co.uk for £2.41 but frankly, I didn't really enjoy it that much when I read it.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I will, when we are at that point! May not be for a few years yet....unless you mean for the four foot high room! Don't think even Doozergirl is that clever!
Getting structurally sound and drainage comes first, and its cheaper to make the changes to existing bits and build the replacement bit at the same time, hence getting those plans down. when the back is done/ and drainage will move the ''kitchen;; there, but will probably move existing cruddy units for a while, or just have the white goods, a kitchen sink and the table in there, and some pro tem shelving.
Its the bit I'm most excited about and most nervous about because its the only divergence from the original structure and usage so will be more personal. I feel a responsibility to the house to get that change sensitive and practical but right.0 -

I think dwarf tossing requires a higher ceiling, surely?

My DH's family are very short. Most are under five feet so they'd have to stoop a bit. This could be a plan. ...now,how to make them fight......get them hungry and toss in a doughnut?0

The thought of a cat play room does tickle me. I imagine it having a small chandelier that they can swing from. Maybe that's the origin of the expression;).Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? A snuggle room?
Somewhere where someone can sneak off and relax amongst cosy cushions, maybe have a read or do....errrrr...something else with another person where standing is not required.
At 4ft high, you could even manage to get a small screen television in there, a low but comfy mattress/bed like thing, some cushions and have it as a cosy hideaway, to be used when you need to get away from the stress. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Is this on the ground floor? If it is, dig out a basement, and make an indoor swimming pool.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I like those ideas. DH thought the whole back wall could be a tv. We keep saying its a shame we don't have kids as they could have it for film watching and games console playing (not that we'd apprve of too much of that).
Tomterm its above a ground floor room, below a 1st floor room. ATM accessed through a cupboard downstairs where there is a hayloft door hidden above. Very odd. We didn't know it was there in the way it is when we bought. i.e. we knew there was a gap, but thought it was just a false ceiling....instead there is this amazing space.0
