I thought of you two on Friday. When I was in the car hire place, a census person came in to ask if there was any residential accommodation on the premises, but the car hire bloke said no, so she went away. I guess that was a quick and easy tick of a box on her list.

Yes, if only they were all that straightforward!

Another scorcher today. Walked the entire circumference of a HUUUUGE beach, where the sea goes out at least 1/4 mile and the beach must be 1/4 mile wide. HUUUUUUUGE it was. Picked up about 5 shells and a tiny bit of driftwood.... I gather all sorts of goodies and "spot" what's available on each beach in case I want to quickly get hold of something or other. This beach was good for nothing... just acres and acres of soft, soft sand.... so I guess it's good if I suddenly need 2-3 buckets of super-soft sand at a minute's notice (as you do).

I saw my first electric car in the week. It nearly came a cropper. It must have been doing about 60mph on the dual carriageway and two of us were doing 70mph in the outside lane ... when he realised he was fast approaching the rear of a tractor that was doing about 30-35 and he tried to pull out to overtake the tractor before he lost speed .... and we all ended up doing 50.

8 quid an hour here for a ccs interviewer plus a £75 completion bonus - about 100 hours work in total including training - I applied after the others on this thread mentioned getting the gig (ie much too late) and am now a 'reserve'.

Linking to some of the other threads about is it worth working - on my current reduced salary tax and benefit withdrawal mean I pay an effective rate of 73% tax so say I got 1k I would only end up with 270 in my pocket - hover if I end up making closer to my normal annual salary during the year then the extra money on top would only be taxed at 42% so I would get 580 in pocket - seems wrong somehow as a high earner I would do much better from a bit of extra income?
So, how much do they pay you for this census malarky?
    I think....

Its been a lovely weekend to wander around :) Been quite lucky so far - only been drizzled on once, the rest of the time its been nice and dry :)

Edit: Sent you a pm about coordinator, hope you don't mind.

Think you'll find that being paid weekly keeps the motivation levels up - its only a few weeks to get through. Thats what I keep telling myself anyway!

How have you found people? I've actually been pleasantly suprised, the very vast majority of people have been lovely :o

Weather has been good. People generally been approachable. Most have either already posted the forms, or don't answer the door.:)

Erm, £9.92 an hour. (:o) To walk around a bit knocking doors saying "can you send yer form back plz thanks!" If you do, I won't bother ya again!:)
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

It's not haberdashery stuff I'm looking at... it's metally stuff and engineering tools that I want to import. Having said that, things can change.... once I get "my space" and start spreading stuff around I'll get caught with ideas no doubt.

These sites have all sorts of things on them so useful to file away as you never know when a few cm of ribbon will be the final clincher on the design.
    Also cutters and so on

http://www.fredaldous.co.uk who seems to have expanded into things like candle making now. I used to buy hoops from him to make bags out of old levis and curtains.....must have been about 12 years ago now ...gosh 0-0.

Carrying a stock of stuff is handy as you never know what you might need.

I was using D rings this week for something...I think I have lugged around a tub of D rings for 10 years now and never used any......until this week yay! Downside is if the item goes into production I have to source 2000 of them and I only have a bag of 100.

Especially for Viva, after reading of your recent experiences, and in honour of the "social consequences" thread etc, you simply HAVE to read this book:
    topimg_8192_upside_of_irrationality_300x400.jpg

It is funny, articulate, engaging, enlightening, and downright fascinating. It covers a lot about the financial crisis & consequences of 2008 onwards, plus a great deal of looking at human behaviour. The chapter on revenge, why we do it, and its implications for customer service is engrossing me at the moment.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

It does seem crazy. Complicated too. It should be a clear cut situation where you do more you get more......people shouldn't need to think about how to get the best from a system for work or not.

Have a lot of people not bothered to do it?

How many on average in 10? Say 1 in 10?

I remember doing mine online and it was a PITA but not a big deal to polish off in 15 mins.

Have you had a stand-off yet with a ''I am not doing it on principle'' person yet?

I'd found the fredaldous site this weekend, I was surprised I hadn't found it before. My list of links is already extensive (OCD style), but it's a list that'll have no end.....

A couple of places I want to apply for a trade account are "old school" in that you have to provide them with your VAT number, or a couple of trade references... so I'll have to wait until I'm up and running before applying for those.

There's so much to look into isn't there.... not even got onto branding/packaging and labelling yet :)
