I am so with you on this one PN - I hate buying things I know I already have just because I don't know where they are (beyond the generic 'in a box or bag in the garage or loft', probably).

Recently I bought a switch to fix my Henry Hoover - when I eventually got time to fix it at Christmas (the replacement hoover lasted all of 6 months before breaking) could I find the new switch?...Eventually I swallowed my principles and bought a new one but once I have had the fabled 'clear and sort out' that I have planned now I have so much free time no doubt there will be a Henry Hoover switch going on ebay.
Blimey ... you stalkers are scarey.

I have speakers, in a box, in storage, about 17 miles away. So I don't want to buy more.
    I think....

You could get speaker for 99p off Ebay, you may even have some freebie ones that came with your mobile? Virtually all PCs will have an AUX socket, so you really have no excuse. Can mail you some if you are desperate.
My mobile was 2nd hand in 2005, it's not modern at all. No speakers with it.

I have an ear piece, but when I plugged that in it didn't work, so not entirely sure if it's the PC that's broken really. The ear piece used to work.

It's not important/essential yet. Having speakers is just a "nice to have". I do have a laptop, which has speakers, but I rarely use it as it needs to be put down somewhere and I genuinely don't have the room to put a laptop down. This room is tiny/cramped/crowded.

I've downloaded/installed that. PC browser crashed and the CPU's going nuts... but I will now try to work out how to use it/what to do.

I'm in a right pickle with cameras at the moment.

1] I bought a camera, it's great. No idea where it is. I can't have lost it while I was out/left it somewhere and I won't have put it into storage for a variety of reasons. But where is it? No idea.... had a big look around today, pulled out/opened every box/bag/pile of stuff here; it's nowhere. That camera has a card which I can get out.
2] Somebody sent me a mobile phone to take snaps; that works, but the card's fiddly and the camera's of limited use. I now need a macro, which my camera has.
3] Somebody's lent me a top range/fab camera - but I struggle to get the card out - and I don't have a card reader that reads that type of card. So I bought a card reader, got it home and it doesn't read that size of card.

So getting nowhere on the "take a nice photo, to upload online, for a variety of reasons" front now.

I guess I need to buy another card reader, by taking the tricky card out of the camera and buying one. But I am scared of taking the tricky card out of the camera in case I break it/get it wrong and am shoving it in the wrong way round and it'll break.

I think I've got the downloader working. PC's going nuts about it though.

I installed it on IE and Firefox (the default two tick boxes), but couldn't see it as a toolabar in FF, so reinstalled it. Downloaded the first file, right clicked and chose "Open With ... Internet Explorer" and it played. I did this in IE, the toolbar still doesn't exist in FF at all.

Tried to do a 2nd one and I lost the Internet entirely :)

Could the camera not talk to the computer via a suitable usb cable without needing to remove the card at all?

Are you sure that downloading and saving utube rather than watching live isn't illegal?! ;)

If you are using FF, there are a few add ons you can use (just search for it in tools>add-on ) , I just assumed internet exploder for some reason.

Youtube video downloading isn't illegal as long as you are not caught.

It is ridiculously bandwith intensive, however.

    I'm confused.

Is watching stuff on youtube illegal?

Er... quite a lot of the time, yes, it is.

If the copyright holder uploaded it, you can watch in accordance with the youtube terms of use ( a lot of the time, the copyright holder didn't upload it).

These terms of use do not permit you to download it, they only allow you to stream the content through their software.
