I was discussing advent calanders with a colleague, her two have 3 each (1 lego and 2 chocolate). My three have one they share, not just me being excessively MSE but also because I really dislike sweets and chocolates for kids and most importantly I think it is teaching them about sharing and waiting to get what you want.

My kids also eat some of everything even if they don't like it, policed by it being 'expected' and we all eat together so it is normal food not fish fingers and pizza. I feel a bit bad about this as I was a fussy child and still don't eat some things I expect them to eat...
    I think....

I think you should try what you expect them to eat. :):D One of my best friends has a fussy boyfriend and I dread socialising with them as its always a nightmare with food. My dad's also quietly fussy which makes cooking when he's here really hard, more expensive and less delicious for us.

I only had picture advent calenders, thy were lovely enough. The chocolate ones aren't as pretty, and the ones with a gift everyday pose problems if the child has been a little naughty (I know because I thought it would be a lovely idea for nieces:o).

We used to have an advent calendar at school, each day the teacher would pick a child to open a door. They were printed with some glitter on. But we didn't have advent calendars at home; they were a luxury back then I guess.

Now I could buy myself an advent calendar I don't bother.... I figure it's daft and they look tacky ... and I could just buy myself a huge bar of chocolate and get a better rate of £/100g.

Was thinking of going out, but now mid-disaster. Logged on to check income, I know what I expected about this time of day ... what I didn't expect was for it to show: £0.13.

My site's gone. Down. Message up saying it'll be back later.... not good. Online support wasn't available either, so had to submit a dreaded support ticket.... and now waiting.

No idea what's going on, or why, or how long it's been down - probably all morning.

It's important to spread risk/income ... which I spend 99% of my time trying to do as this one big site brings in 85% of my income .... and right now ... it's not there :(

Edit: it was up again within 20 minutes... this stuff makes me scared to leave the PC most days 'in case'.

We don't even have one advent calendar here....but my parents have one and the grandchildren are taking it in turns to open a door.

Re the food - the health visitor said that my children would not eat veg as I don't (I mean greens mainly)....my children were the odd ones out who asked for veg with their chicken nuggets and chips at a family wedding.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    .

I use site24x7 for that on really critical websites... you can set it up so that it send you a text message within a minute or so of the web site going down. It is a bit pricey though.

This particular one's a DotNetNuke site, I moved it to PowerDNN mid-year when my last host was bought out and they migrated it and it didn't work on their new servers - and they gave me a month to shift it. 4GB DB and a site I've been writing since 2006/2007.

I use siteuptime to generate me emails, but that hadn't spotted the site was down on this occasion - I guess because the site was up and showing a "maintenance" page.

All the rest I have on Wordpress, using a combination of eukhost and bluehost.

Right. I've just been determined to find/write down this recipe I mentioned earlier... so I am putting it here so I know where it is. These "look like" potato croquettes in the picture. Page 38 of the Sainsbury's Fresh Ideas Magazine, Winter 2010.

    Cheddar & Mustard Bites
Makes 8, Prep time 15 mins; cook time 25 mins.

85g fresh white breadcrumbs; 1/2 small onion, very finely chopped; 25g semolina; 15g mature Cheddar, grated; 1 egg, beaten; 1 teasp dried thyme; 1 teasp wholegrain mustard; 1 tablesp olive oil. Few leaves parsley to garnish.

Preheat oven to 200degrees C (Fan 180 degrees). Mix all ingredients, except oil and parsley, in a bowl. Season well. Knead with your fingertips until the mix sticks together. Form into 8 evenly shaped logs.
Brush each one with olive oil, place on baking sheet. Cook for 25 minutes until crisp and golden.
Serve garnished with the parsley leaves.

I bet they're great with chips :) Or covered in a cheesy sauce (I make mine in the microwave).

    Now this I understand.

I went out with one Aged P. to day and the other house sat. I've come home and they say...you better count the chickens. I can't find my oldest, sweetest bird. She was the first in this whole thing of rediscovering chooks as an adult, she's a doll and a beautiful, well bred bird. She lets children pick her up and now she's either dead, or out alone in the cold,:( :(

Did you check up the trees?

You should install CCTV so you can watch them.... or replay video to see which direction they headed off in.
