I'm thinking to put the corridor from main staircase to our room through the west facing bathroom, rather than comprimise the ''middle' bedroom as on those plans. Architect ''aesthetically'' advises against a blind corridor, (which this would have to be, the wall there can't take another rsj).
On first reading I thought: first they want the stair case to open into the main bedroom, now they are running the corridor through the bathroom - how open minded are these people.
Then I realised that isn't at all what you meant.
I'll look at the plans again later and give my opinion - that you can ignore.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. If you did go with your thoughts I would recommend obscure glazing the top of the wall between the bathroom and the corridor to allow some borrowed light.
Our first house had no natural light on the landing but above every door there was obscured window between top of door and ceiling and that did give enough light to not feel gloomy.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. ROFL. Pretty much that open mindedits embarrassment at flab rather than prudishness that stops me really ...:D

Hi lir,
Surely it is the doorway that is structural rather than the door itself? Otherwise wouldn't the house structure be compromised every time the door was opened? So could you not leave doorway where it is, but take door out and have new door at end of corridor? I have to say other than that I find the plans quite balanced as they are, which I'm not sure they would be with the amendment you proposed. Sorry. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Nothing to be sorry for, its useful!
restructure, i think the point is more that the wall won't tolerate another whole cut in it.0 -
Sorry, a bit confused now. So the layout that's shown on the plan is now not possible? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? No, layout on the plan IS possible. (I'm sorry for being confusing)
The corridor shown on the plan takes from the bedroom (the thick wall of the bathroom is now the dividing wall between two bedrooms).
So the plan shows that we'd take a corridor from the bedroom side of the wall, where as I was wondering whether we should take from the other room (marked there as bathroom and dressing room). Its fitting things round that immovable wall i the middle and the wall between those rooms and master suite.0 -

I still like it the way it is on the plan as it is balanced, but it does depend on the dimensions. It is difficult to know without those. If the bathroom is still of a reasonable size, then why not? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? How big is the bedroom your architect wants you to take the corridor out of? How much smaller would it be once the corridor was there? What do you intend to use the room for - who will sleep there, and how often, and will you use it for anything else? If the bed is drawn to the same scale as the house, then it looks a decent size even with the corridor taken out of it.
On the other hand, I'm not sure I see the point of a dressing room with no natural light (unless you borrow from the bathroom with obscured glass along the top of the partition wall between them, and even that wouldn't be great). What would you intend to put in there, and what do you envisage doing in there?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I'm not sure this is a nice people question, but does anyone else ignore any threads started by a poster who only has upper case letters in their name?I think....0
