We have one (black), it has a built in brita type filter so the water tastes fairly neutral (it isn't very nice here generally but I grew up on Hampshire Downs spring water which they bottled near by so everything tastes a bit dull in comparison) and the water comes out nice and clear and cool and with unlimited ice you always add some. The kids look a bit non-plused when we visit anyone who hasn't got one and need a quick kick to stop them asking where is the ice and why do they not get water from the fridge?
Multiple receptions are definitely required with kids as you can clean a room to perfection, let the kids in for 30s and it will look like you live in a slum so you need a room they don't play in to escape to.lostinrates wrote: »silvercar, another question...about your fridge.
DH really wants a fridge with a water dispenser....but I always think the water tatses a little peculiar. do you find this? He wants it mainly for ise I think.I think....0 -

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Posh gaff init
Those two rooms are all the space I'd need.... and probably more than I'll get
It is our forever home, I hope!
It is only one room in a T shape, you can see the back of the chair from the second photo in the first.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. It sounds idyllic Pastures. I wouldn't be surprised if there would be others queuing up for that. Lots of people don't have kids and that sounds a nice place for grown ups. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Can I just ask people why they need more than 1 family room?
Or will it all become apparent to me when I have my own children?
You need a grown up room that stays tidy.
Then you need a room the kids can mess up.
Then a dining room, because you or they have messed up the kitchen.
Then a study because there are so much "home" papers or someone works from home or the kids need a quiet internet room.
Then you need a TV room, because you don't want your 50" plasma to become the prominent feature in your tidy room.
.....
then a patio but its cold, so you need a conservatory (or Lir's inside-outside room).
then a summer house so the kids can escape into the garden.
......

Would be really interested to see the floor plans. WE wanted the garage (probably for storage tbh) but would not have been allowed to not have it as then there would not have been the planners required number of parking spaces.
Ours also built in 30's and previous owners were here 20 years and retiring although it has obviously been updated since the 30s...
And suggestions re the ceilings? They are art-deco (cinema style) patterned artex, can't say it is what I would chose but they are almost 'art' so it seems a shame to skim them?JonnyBravo wrote: »Yep.
It was a 2 1/2 bed semi and extremely dated as you can see. Original owner from the 30's.
Now 4 double beds. 2 ensuite baths and family bath.
Still loving it, 5 years on, and esp now its mortgage free!
The greenhouse was demolished I'm afraid. It was v old and couldnt be moved. I have replaced it with a better one. (Further behind camera in later pic)I think....0 -

It changes over time. What starts as the adults wanting a tidy separate room becomes the room the kids want to entertain their friends without having to talk to adults.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Thanks all
I think my problem is that my house looks like a slum anyway with 2 adults (I'm not v good at keeping things tidy at home) so was wondering.
Maybe we should have an extension we never live in and we could invite people over then.0 -
If you don't lknow what you want (and have the time) may be you should view lots that meet at least 1 criteria - either you may just walk in to one and say 'yes' or alternatively it you work out why it is a no it may help you have a better idea of what a yes is?
And may be rather than looking for the job first and the house second you should find the house and then take whatever job is available within commuting distance?PasturesNew wrote: »I want a house that nobody would build and nobody else would buy
It'd all be "for me", just the way I want it. Thing is, until you're living in a house you don't know how you'd want it. So not only could I not buy the perfect house, but I also couldn't design it.
But, it does involve french doors into a conservatory and a south facing garden and a verandah .... and a summerhouse and good sized garage and utility..... and no grass to cut ever.... and good/easy off-road parking for 2+ cars (excluding the garage).
And I want to sit inside, in the conservatory, at the breakfast bar, and be able to easily see out of the windows to 'the view'... and 'the view' should preferably be the sea... but I'd like to be able to "watch moving things" out there.... boats/people would be good, otherwise people/cars. I do like to watch moving things from a comfortable distance.... and I need to be above them, not at the same level, but also not at the top of a hill.... so, say, at least 6' above a road if cars were the moving things.
I'm odd... but lovely.I think....0
