I guess that is why you need to see a place rather than just the plans to actually know whether you are coming in to the kitchen or as it actually turns out coming in to the reception 'porch' and then going through the 'lobby' section off the kitchen. I can see that if the family room is a kids play room then you would not want it to double as the entrance reception. It doesn't feel like entering straight into the kitchen. The proper kitchen is the bit beyond the little bits of sticking out wall at the ends of the units. The beginning bit of the kitchen was probably the original utility room. It's now a sort of entrance space. It's got a huge and ancient boiler in one corner, which is going, of course. I'm assuming that a more modern boiler will be smaller and can go on a wall somewhere (in the actual kitchen, maybe) and not take up loads of floor space.I think....0

This is a house that captivated me, for its history. It's just sold. I imagined LIR's house to have been a scaled down version of this.

That house was built around a courtyard because in its past it's been subject to sieges and threats.....0

....And this house's raison d'etre was originally to give a home to a pig man, though I'm pleased to say that the pig unit across the road has long been converted to something more 'acceptable,' in an olfactory sense.
However, to Western Power Distribution, who pay us a wayleave, it seems we shall forever be known as 'Piggeries.'0 -

Ok nice people, just a quick question, have you joined the Fish Fight yet (www.fishfight.net)?
For those that didn't catch the programme, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall is taking on the EU's Common Fisheries Programme. Currently millions of tonnes of fish are thrown back into the sea dead because policy doesn't allow them to land them. Even though cod are hopelessly overfished, if a bass fisherman goes out and catches cod by accident he has to throw them back, dead. Even though other species are caught up in cod trawlers, they too are thrown back again dead. Its a hopeless waste of our food security, ramps up prices and is cruel.
There are different strands to the campaign, these include stopping discards (the process above - which accounts for about 50% of the catch) and getting people attuned to fish outside of those which are in short supply, for example Coley as an alternative to cod, eating more mackerel which are plentiful and dab as a plaice alternative.
I signed the petition the other night and was something like number 116,000. The numbers on the petition are now over 400,000 and rising rapidly. Personally I'm supporting the campaign because although I'm a vegetarian and don't eat fish anyway, I think its bonkers.
The Common Fisheries Policy will be changed in 2012 and we do have a chance to make a difference. So please, go to the website, sign the petition, forward the Fish Fight message to your friends, retweet if you do such stuff... Get the message out there.

Thanks for that viva. I agree it's bonkers.
I'm glad to hear mackerel are plentiful. That's my favourite fish when fresh, and my kids like things made with the tinned version. We don't eat much cod.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
