    Aha!

No ballroom, pople have to dance in the sitting room...and the billards room will be in a separate building:D.

Its a long way off...the finished thing. Not sure, for example we need two downstairs loos...as on plans! ATM its ...habitable. When the ind blows it comes through racks I can ut my hand in. The roof is sound...but just tiles, so they all have to come off, have felt, go back on. Oh yes, and we need to stop it falling down.
One thing I'd make sure of is that I could hold a party/gathering, of people outside, enabling them to access the kitchen and a loo, but being able to close/lock the door off to the rest of the house. That way any party could be contained and people'd not get lost and go to pee in 'the wrong bathroom/that's not for guests'.

So that'd be "the party zone".

Preferably too without them having to be lead through the house from the front door, or you'd be forever back/forth answering it etc.

Probably need to think further but initial thoughts:

The 'long room' idea makes much more sense now.

Could you take the wall down between the hall and reception to give a 'grand entrance'?

Which are the best aspects/views? Is the utility ruining the aspect from the kitchen on to the garden? If so perhaps you could remove the utility (I am guessing it is single storey here, may be wrong) and instead move it to the side door area that currently has the toilet?

Would it be worth putting a wall and door where you go through the corner of the study so that the study could have privacy/cosiness?

Where is the secret 'lurve' room?!
I think I copied the wrong code. There are a lot to choose from and that one said forum, this is a forum.....

Trying to read discussion about Lydias front door now...

funny how we all had diferent solutions!

If I were to change entrance it would have been through family room too...but changed that to a dining room...

I can see advantages to the conservatory...you can answer the door and keep an eye on kids in the garden.

OK...this is why the architect thinks two loos. One for muddy people /rough parties...not allowing access anyhere else.

For parties (most of our friends have got past vomiting behind the sofa) we thought we would open the two sets of french windows in the summer, then the three receptions at that end...for circulation.

    In winter, just those rooms....

Too much going on in LIR's design for me to even attempt a suggestion. I've no idea which walls are protected (Grade xx Listing/can't touch). But, there is a funny "nothing room" between the living room and the dining room... what's that all about? Or is that Untouchable Walls?

I would have suggested it's a great place to store crockery/linens for the dining room .... and then I realised the dining room is nowhere near the kitchen!!

I couldn't work from plans like this without having a walk around. In walking around you'd get a feel for the space and shapes. Really need a 3D plan that you can drag/drop walls etc and click a button to do a walkaround as you drag/drop walls in/out.

You ARE good at this...that was one of the possibilites raised by the architect. We think we've decided not to. For a couple of reasons, but I agree, for many people it would be better, though in it the ''little'' sitting room has lovely dimensions. I'm in there now:)

Bet views are from the new reception room and the sitting room on right of stairs, and that side. The kitchen garden will be pretty but not spectauclar, its too tiny, and the back garden will be fantastic, of course, :Dbut not an open view....think walled gardens for them both. (ther are tall barns beyond each)

Yes, if we can re use doors. Also thinking about a door to outside from there.

Lurve room is above the right hand half of new dining room. (i.e current ''day'' room)

It's not about vomiting, it's about people feeling free to poke your stuff about and pull your books out and open your drawers and feel it's a "free for all" to comment on everything you've got.... and people's inability to watch where they're walking and what they're treading in.... and not having to put away everything/tidy up what you were doing or working on before people arrive.... and limiting the amount of space where mess could be just left and the door closed on it.

If you have a good party and let people go wherever they want, the next day you'll find pieces of vol au vent in the plantpots and random glasses shoved on windowsills and the corners of rooms everywhere. Not to mention the genius who thought your perfectly lovely Egyptian towels would be ideal to mop up the red wine they spilt. Instead, you have the party, all the cups/plates/bottles/mess are in the one contained area and you can shut the door on it and go to bed until the morning ..... at which time you can still ignore it until you're ready.

    Come and visit.:)

The nothing room is the massive fireplaces.

Dining room kitchen distance has been a bug bear. From the kitchen you would use door by the second stairs....

The alternative was to put it in the study (which is ATM the kitchen), but we like the idea of the long thin room now....its no further.

I've had another thought - do you need to add on a bit - by the looks of it almost every other owner has felt the need to!
    I think....
