Not going out to the special shop today because ..... [a] the weather's appalling and I'd rather 'make a day of it' if I'm going out, so good weather makes for a pleasant round trip rather than a miserable dash from car park to shop/back/home. Tax return's not getting done ... and I really should get it done and dusted (as well as most of the next one).
So, first good weather day in the next week and I'll be out there poking stuff about and buying etc.0 -
PN, I've read this about how to drill into a shell for jewellery.
http://www.squidoo.com/HWJ-Tips-DrillingHolesinSeashells
Right now I don't have a drill, I've never used one ... and I don't have any space where I'd be allowed or able to use a drill, so that's definitely on the future list. Ideally any house I do buy one day would have a workshop, outside in the garden. That could have drills in it0 -
At the moment, I'm sitting on my bottom and adding things to my lakeland basket that I don't need but I presume will probably be gardening most of the summer
Getting home from work in the nice weather, at a reasonable time is a joy. And such a stress buster! One thing I love is the fact that I now get chance to do this - walk home, & potter about in the fresh air. Lovely!:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
PN, the shells etc are a really good idea.
The problem with beads etc is that unless you are making them someone else can buy them. Some one who maybe doesn't want to make a profit, just to cover their costs. Or sell them as a loss leader.
Now the bits and pieces....well...that's part of why vintage can command a lot....''you MIGHT be abe to find that 60s mini, the 50s lamp or the ercol chair ...but you might not, it'll cost you to find it AND you'll have to do the work of restoring it/being creative with it yourself...so buy it NOW at my inflated price''.
edit: still thing he sei precious thing has loads more milage in it. And originality. The site I sent you whether or not you like her work its got clear ''identity'' and originality0 -
That hiatus in junkemails that was in the news at the weekend.....well that's obviously gone. I have loads both filtered and getting past filters into my inbox. What a PITA. For the record no, I never want to ''hook up on MSN messenger'' nor do I need viagra. And what the hell is it with replica watches? Why so many of those emails and why haven't they become as clich!d as the viagra and extension ones?0

wageslave :kisses3:
Dunno whether you'll read this or not, as I believe your visits are intermittent, but I hope you do...Remember, the grass is always greener...LIR, I am a fu cking !!!!!, no point in pretending to be old money here dollface.
No you're not. You are quite probably my dream woman!;)
Boots, boots my dear...Strangely enough, I petrify the mummys and they are not worried about being beaten up:A
I look them up and down and shake my head and honestly the mummys are as good as gold. All throwing themselves at me at the school gates. Local author dont ya know..........
Oh that's her, isn't she a gypsy? Someone said she was frighteningly clever. Doesn't she write or something.......
Nowt wrong with that. Sounds almost like they envy you to me, wishing they had your brains.I want my girls to have everything and I want them to have it now.
Not next week or next year. Now.
What everything? Disease? Pestilence? (Tongue firmly in cheek);)They have been objects of pity all their lives.
Clearly not, especially by yourself.I knoow it is pathetic but it matters to me. I want little girls to go home crying about my girls and their stuff
I am really shallow
Why? Why does it matter?
As the tune goes, "the best things in life are free".
I'd argue that the best/most important & admirable things you can give kids are: time, independence, self-belief, confidence, humility, empathy, honesty, integrity, knowledge, understanding, compassion, trust, love, honour.
You won't find any of these in shops. Know why? Cos money can't buy the bleeding essentials of life. These things matter so much more than tat. They don't need the latest gizmo to have self-worth. An ipad isn't going to allow them to hold their head high in the playground. What will is their own self-perception, & the love & compassion of the people who really matter to them.
Look at recent events in this thread. LIR may be frustrated by a damaged car, and inconvenienced by it. Still, what matters is that her DH has (happily) escaped unscathed from something which could have been a lot worse.
Whilst you are looking at these other mums, feeling envy over whatever, they are looking at you feeling different types of envy.
What is really important is yourself & the girls. Material stuff is nice, but it won't cuddle you & kiss it better when you graze your knee, which is what they're more likely to need. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
But, I do know how you feel about the looks....I get it all the time at the school gates for being a single parent on benefits, round here, that is the lowest of the low (regardless of the reasons why)I do wonder, sometimes, how many of them think of me as "that poor mother whose kids' dad died" and how many of them think of me as "that dreadful mother whose kids are almost always late and don't have their hair done nicely".Oh that's her, isn't she a gypsy? Someone said she was frighteningly clever. Doesn't she write or something.......
See, everyone thinks the world is watching them. When really they haven't even noticed. They are all deep in thought composing in their mind their Tesco shopping lists or wondering which gym class to go to, or whether to have a latte or cappuccino at Starbucks later.
and if they are looking and judging, its whether xxx's new Ugg boots are her third pair this year and whether grey really is the new black.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Nobody's watching me, I reached the "invisible age" - all women reach that age.... well, it's great. Nobody's looking at you, ever. Very freeing it is0

This.
There are a lot of times in the last few years since being ill and not looking like ''me'' that I have refused to leave the house. Sometimes it was the weight I gained, sometimes the skin, if my face was droopy, the sticks etc.
TBH I don't think that many people really care. A lot of people I don't talk to any more...not because they weren't there at the time...I don't blame anyone for that...but because they do feel differently now. But....so do I.
I think background is important to an individuals development as themselves. But I don't think it has to be a social divide. And I say that as someone who had bullying because of colour and background (including having an arm broken and being chucked of the 1st floor of a school building in an other country.) But then...thats why I went to schools were that wuld happen I guess...to learn how not to make it important.
eta: been thinking about this and I do still let it get in the way for me, a lot...not the background stuff...the stuff now. I just like to think sometimes I don't. Oh well.0
