I have to say I do understand about old money and not showing what you have. For me it is very important that nothing I wear or drive suggests anything other than practical - as soon as I see someone with an expensive watch or car I immediately assume they are inadequate and need to justify themselves by others perception of their monetary wealth rather than being comfortable internally with who they are.

    Or just like nice things???

I guess my poor kids may have to suffer a lot of bullying while they learn this self-confidence.

Fascinating! Are you able to say which shop? Is it national? Notifying you of every sale is time consuming I would have thought but good attention to their donors and may kepe people bringing items in.

I haven't got into ebaying. DH keeps saying he will start an account but never gets any further and I can't be ar**d. I like to do the occasional car boot though, to get rid of stuff, make a few bob and enjoy the atmosphere. :D

The charity was Help the Aged. The originally intended recipient was Cancer Research, but I was having difficulty both carrying the items and finding the shop. :o Both worthy causes. :)

Car Boots are fun. Vast numbers of wall paper pasting tables with peoples items on. The antique bargain finders who scour through your goods before you've set-up. The genuingly new items being sold to avoid VAT. The overpriced burger vans with questionable hygiene.

    All good fun.

    DW never puts on makeup.

I agree with you on all the external shows of ostentation, clothes, car, etc., EXCEPT for make up. I always wear make up.

They bug me while I'm setting up. I get rid of them.... tell them I've only got rubbish, which is probably true. Amazingly, it nearly all gets sold though. There's always someone who wants your old tat!

Objects of fear, thats closer to the truth than I will admit

I am mostly an object of fear

She goes to nursery and comes home. Nantie such and such had something I didn't have

People are fearful of what they don't know ws. It's sad but true. And sometimes traveller folk are fearful of house dwellers. It's just the way it is. Don't let fear get in the way ws, you're a good mum.

And every 3 year old wants stuff that their friends have got but they haven't. That's what being 3 is all about. Learning what you want and how to manipulate grown ups into getting it for you. Believe me that's not a traveller trait, its a human one! Saying no is the hard part. Thank God I'm only an aunty.

I sort of agree about liking nice things but if I see you how can I know whether you are driving that silver x5 cos you think it is nice rather than because you think others will think you have made it - I know which I would assume. Best to stick to the old Landy.

They are a nuisance. If they take keen interest in an item while I've not setup I get paranoid that it might be worth something. Especially if early in the day. I like to deter them to give others the chance to express interest too. It's probably simply wishful thinking. I doubt I have any antique's.

I normally have items left over. Your 'tat' must be better than mine! :)

I think today would have possibly been my best day ever, online, if only my site hadn't been down until lunchtime :(
Same last Tuesday, it'd have been a good day.
I'll be on the ball and watching/waiting next Tuesday and if it goes down for 1 second I'll be onto the hosts to say there's a pattern.

Cancer Research UK, MacMillan and another are close to my heart. They get cash donations.

Keep up the good work misskool. Working for a charity must be very rewarding. :)
