Oh no....not for me thanks!0 -

2666 I've had for a while, and I thought I'd get a couple of curl-up and snuggle book days over the holidays to attack it. (Its very dense writing..long paragraphs mean I have to hold along train of thought...hard). I start it...the first 100 pages or so, but have no recollection of it all (just found my little mark saying I'd read to here...a bit like I sometimes use the thanks button) so not sure why I didn't finish it. No that usual for me at all.
I haven't read that but its very popular on the old style boards. The only takeaway type food I wish I was better at is Chinese cooking. I can't eat thai food for some reason (I love it and have no allergies to anything in it but for some reason something terrible happens to me) and I'm not in love with most Japenese food ...but hen sushi is what you want nothing else will do! I don't like Korean food much either :oBut chinese food ...yum.
Neither actually. My thinking was (& in a way re-enforced by your reply) was that with the novel, snuggled on a bed, or couch in front of a fire, or similar comfort zone would be a better place to read it. The other issue is finding a place to pause. Don't know about you, but I am a devil for saying "I'll just finish my chapter". I felt a cookery book could be browsed at leisure in the bath, selecting ideas, being more relaxed (yet still stimulating) with easier means to find the opportunity to pause, or even get out.lostinrates wrote: »Oh no....not for me thanks!
May I ask why? When I first saw the book, I was in no way interested. But I have to say having read it (& studied it as an a level text) it really is one of the best books ever written imo. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

I read all of cooking with booze, and want their very nice sounding coffee now. And strawberries with black pepper and sambuca

I'm sure it is good. There just have to be limits...you know. You can't read everything in the world and so you rationalise. As a rule I won't watch films set on boats or when the people wear uniforms either. Except for star trek.0 -

I've got some of the recipes from it, gleaned here and there. But as I've no kitchen, no freezer, I am not rushing out to buy the actual book.0 -
Having a bath is high on my wish list. Unfortunately, 1-bed flats (and many flats in general) don't offer a bath, just a shower.
There's a bath here, but no lock, so I couldn't relax... and the door opens outwards, so couldn't wedge it. Bl00dy annoying it is. I generally only go to the loo/have a shower when I know the others have been and so I won't get walked in on. In the past year just had to shout "oi" once.
I do want my own space
Saw a lovely flat I've missed.... for moving to. Wrong town/wasn't where I was looking. In fact, the crime maps have it as a bit of a bad spot, but views to die for.... however, it only shows up when in RM I choose "show let properties" so no idea when it went, all I can do is want and whine.0 -

Actually I used to cook pretty damn good SS chicken and egg fried rice when I was a student.0 -

On a slightly different tack, I've just realised that I attribute a voice to all you regulars.... so when I read your posts in my head, I'm hearing them in 'your' different voices.
I have vague ideas about appearances too.... I wouldn't want to have my imagination spoiled.
I wonder if I'm alone in this and whether it's more of a female trait?0 -
Generally, for cooking, I've never bothered. This has been for a variety of reasons. One is that I have strange irrational fears about using cookers and fat and hot things ... in case of fire.
But, in addition to that, my parents kitchen was always small, dire, without any "me" space available. I then lived in a caravan and it was just me, with no freezer. Then I had a studio, just me, no freezer. Then I was moving about a bit, bedsits, just me, no freezer. Then I bought a house and was working away all week for the first year or so, then I wasn't working and the kitchen was horrid and it was just me and the house was cold/draughty (so kitchen unwelcoming). Then I rented a studio and couldn't cook as it'd stink the place out - and there was no freezer. Now I'm here and there's no "me" space to put foods, I'd be in the way, it'd cause arguments and mocking and so I cook mostly "just for me" so there's no point.
Really looking forward to one day having a nice, small, warm house, with a nice sized kitchen, good cupboards and a freezer0 -

Probably right. fwiw I would NEVER bother battering something for me alone. But I'd make SS chicken without batter if I fancied it. TBH tossing it in some cornflour wouldn't a any stress.0
