And I'm pootling around with a retro car (circa 1997)

That's about it with us usually. We all have jobs, except the one or two who are retired, and it's a case of having a few words on the odd occasion we bump into each other or, more often than not, waving as we pass by car.

However, 3 or 4 times a year a house/garden party or celebration of some sort is held and we all get together and chat as if we met up every week. Then it's back to normal for the next 3 months.

All very civilised, newcomers are welcomed. Oh, there's a bit of gossip when the opportunity arises but we're generally a nice crowd. :)

I'n back fro website-less pub. Been looking for number to call them and it doesn't exist yet. New business. It was, hic, very nice. A bit squeaky clean, a bit ''toomuch''. who heard of stainless steel bar in a country pub? And heated floors? (owner is not a European and it shows) but very nice, friendly, and not hideous. Hic.

We drank with people we already knew though. hic. I grinned at people and we were obviously being spoken about though. I don't know whether the new people or the new pub was more exciting. ;)

Sounds like you are settled in now in the area? I am so so pleased.....have I missed what you did with the 3 acres of concrete...or did you decide to turn it into a gigantic patio garden with a zillion pots?
Neighbours.......I love my London ones and it's one of the nice things about living in my own house.

OMG love those......we had them jumping, lots of hair and making their bodies into nice shapes....worked really well. I felt I had to hijack my own brand image as we have had some stuff on that telly show about Essex....which I know is a tongue in cheek show but still...

Wow that sounds amazing....how much has changed in such a short time..........I felt living by the sea was such a priviledge. Bluddy expensive though :D

Again, how things appear to people. I presumed she got upset because everyone was having a go at her for moaning that she would lose child benefit. Also, she went off in a strop when she was told she couldn't take it as well as she could dish it out.

Carolt has taken a break before I think.

I like her. I've never really understood the grief she gets.

I just hope she/family are ok and nothing terrible has happened. Sadly I'm learning people come and go on forums.:( You don't often get numbers/emails to check if everything is ok when they go.

I sweep it and spread grit on it. :) I might put figs out there in summer, it gets REALLY hot. I still can't choose a paint colour for he morden/ugly walls in the courtyard. DH almost cried when I suggested aubergine and I've given up trying to match the old brick colour.

Interesting how you get different views on the same thing. I thought the final straw was because she got told that paying higher income tax means you earn a lot more than a hell of a lot of other people so there is no point moaning that you can't manage without child benefit. I think she is rather upset on the house buying front. Having made the massive gamble years back not to buy when she could, she is now in a position when buying could be out of her reach for a long time. She also can't do anything about it for a short time, until she sorts the school thing out in March. So I think hanging around on house buying boards is depressing. At least I hope that's what it is. At the back of my mind I know she has moved to a new area where she may be struggling with no friends in the immediate vicinity and not driving; hope she is coping. Even though we disagreed on a lot of things, she was an interesting person to have around - I wish her well.

This is ringing a bell with me now...I am sure I saw some of this debate but I confess, I glazed over on it.

I saw it that CT's problem was that she lived in an expensive area but needed quite a bit of space with 3 kids. Renting was cheaper for her...we had that in Brighton as we couldn't have afforded to have bought the house we rented....my bro has the same issue in Surrey at the mo as he has rented out his owned house near me to live there.
Shame but I am sure she'll pop back if she feels she wants to.

I just read this out to OH....who said ''what? All 3 acres of it?''

What about a mellow yellow colour for the walls....what's the tone of the original colour?

I actually make that shock smilie face sometimes when I've finished sweeping (I do a bit each day not all everyday) and have to start again.

Tone is red 18century brick...terracotta-ish. Yellow (with a dark blue metre at the bottom) is a safe and likely choice :) Sunny in winter and less glaring than white in summer...it just seems....safe :o
