I started saving using the Jar method last October and for me it works! I have just returned from a holiday which I payed for out of the Jar and since my return I have paid for a 4 day break in Gloucester to watch the Snooker in June out of the Jar,
I will also be going on holiday in September to be paid for out of the Jar.

Although I have a fridge freezer I have been missing out on bargains because the freezer is full so I bought a second hand chest freezer for £50 out of the money from the Jar, which in time will allow me to put more money into the Jar. So after all that my starting point which is the remainder of the Jar on the 12th of May 2011 is £272.14p so here I go again! on my return from shopping or going out whatever change I have goes into the Jar, it's my belief if I hadn't used this method I would not have been able to have three holidays this coming year, so if anyone is thinking of trying it I highly recommend THE JAR.

£10.26 in the pot for me today - Ive not spent my £10.00 food/purse budget for the week yet so that is going in there too - will save me spending it tomorrow!!! x

i must must must buy a new pot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i had to fold up the ten pound note and cram it in - its looking very tempting and easy to remvoe too now lol! I'll pick one up tomorrow x

Thanks for asking about my little motor Sue - everythings going well at the moment (hope I haven't put the mockers on anything by that comment). Not quite as many mpgs as our old one and with the price of fuel heading skywards - not very mse - but hey ho .....:D

Thank you so much, everyone, for your sweet messages - they have given me a lot of comfort at such a difficult time.

Sue - Keep going with the rehab! Sounds like they have you using Theraputty, which is great for functional recovery, as well as being jolly good fun!

Got a lovely crisp £5 note ready to go in the pot - can't wait to get to work, do my work, get home from work, and pot it!

Very profitable day for me today £10.04p on the floor in Mr. M's this morning, also £3 into the sealed pot and £8 in £2 coins for the Poland spending fund.

Well, that was easy! As of the 12th of May 2011 my total after spending is £272.14p so I assume I deduct that from my total at Christmas and add the difference onto the £679 ?

You have done fantastically with the holidays and breaks that you've saved for, very well done indeed! :T Whatever it is that is working for you, namely the jar, keep it up and carry on saving as you have done, you're doing great! BTW with reference to your question if you could kindly put on your signature all that you spend then Sparky makes a note of it on his spreadsheet, thanks for that Viv.

Behave yourself Elmo and stop putting ideas into your head about what you can do with the notes! I know you're only joking but leave it alone until December and you'll be thrilled you did. Another pot already? :shocked: Good for you it goes to show you're saving so well!

Thanks for the good wishes blue_eyed_girl, they're very much appreciated, it's slow but sure but heading in the right direction which is what counts. Good to hear your car is going well, a shame about the mpg but if we worried about everything like that we'd never go anywhere - though it does make you wonder when it will ever stop rising, fingers crossed b_e_g!

Hi again Cazzie, I hope you're slowly coming to terms with your Granddads passing, keep reliving the memories they're worth their weight in gold! It sounds as though you know a little about rehab especially when you talk about the Theraputty, a very apt word but oh boy does that stuff ever stink - way too sweet for my liking but I'll be putting up with it.....though even our poor dog won't come anywhere near it and I can't say I blame her! _pale_

No savings for me today but then I haven't been shopping anywhere so another NSD which isn't a bad thing.

My sealed pot weighs 2.24kg this week. I have not missed one day of putting all loose change in since I started the challenge. I am really looking forward to seeing how much will have been saved on 1 December. Everyone is doing so well.
