Did you see that episode of watchdog a couple of weeks ago that said thats their policy to overbook as a small percentage don't turn up! I think thats awful, i have stayed on the cheap room deals and would be gutted if it had already been given to someone else. I dont know whether ringing ahead makes any difference, i guess the best bet is to check in at 3pm!!! as if!!Love this site!0 -

The same is true of most/all hotel chains and airlines...
Why do airlines overbook flights?

"Hyatt Hotels' Chris Elam, General Manager of the chain's reservations center in Omaha, NE, said overbooking is a fact of life in the industry."

Watchdog is an insidious insult to our intellgences... even those who have so little by choosing to watch such a programme.
Personal opinion, but there are already too many reasons for people to be downcast about the world without an extra 30 minutes a week, refined through a 'smug' filter and served with three sugars.
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
With a travelodge I always arrive early and check in then - often around 12 or 1 - they will usually let you in before the advertised 3pm.. that way I know I'll get a room.0

There was a guy on Watchdog who said he tried to check in at 6pm and was told that all the rooms had been taken, including the room he prebooked some days earlier.
What other business is allowed to take your money for something, sell it onto somebody else in the meantime, and refuses to refund you when they cant provide it to you!.
It's appauling.0 -
wouldn't a quick call confirming attendance a day before check-in resolve the problem? (or at least reduce the possibility of being left out in the cold)?0

well that was a nice comment thanks.
i dont generally watch that programme, but happened to have it on that night. If i did watch it every week....so bloody what??
doesn't make my opinion any less valued than yours.
I have been a member of here for ages, and am a avid lurker rather than a poster, i only post if i feel i can help out on the topic at hand. Posts like that make me wonder why i bother. (btw i know the majority of you aren't like that)
will be keeping my opinions to myself in future
