It is no wonder you people are in so much debt! Have you not heard of Rimmel, Maybelline, Barry M or even No.7?!?!

Why do you feel the need to spend so much money on such trivial things as cosmetics?!

    1) Not everyone on this thread is in debt: many are just people who have realised that they had an excess of cosmetic products and are trying to use them up. It's really quite :money: as what it the point in having something if you don't use it?

    2) Many people who are in debt have lots of toiletries to use up which they have been given as presents, and therefore have not used their money to purchase. Using up what they have already got means that they don't get in any further debt in buying new products, and they can use that money to debt-bust.

    3) People can spend their money on whatever they please, whether you approve or not. I know people who blow thousands upon thousands on expensive cars, which I would not dream of doing even if I were a millionaire, but the fact that I would not do it does not mean that they cannot.

And with that, a Merry Christmas to you! :p

  • Can I join you please. I can not do an inventory, but could probably supply Boots with S&G and as for the Body Shop (we won't go there tonight) :D
Mortgage Free as of 31/5/11 :j:j:j:j:j:j:j
  • I think I should join a similar thread to this but for the whole of 2011!

I've bought/received lots in December which is great but seriously, I do not think I need a single item for the next year :j
  • My not buying toiletries could stretch a lot further after I was given a belated Christmas gift yesterday evening.. tea tree moisturiser, tea tree cream wash * and lavender foot balm ... oh bliss!

*My skin is no longer oily, but my son will love this. Perhaps he'll buy me something that I will use in exchange.

  • Evening all. Firstly wow to Jaxx's list. Absolutely lovely stuff. My plan you :) refer came to me the other day. It isn't something I've done during this challenge before. I just need to imprint into my memory I already have 2/3/4/5/6 or whatever of them already. Here's the updated plan as I have found more stuff during my declutter!

The plan is to abstain err damn well avoid buying the following for either 6 or 3 months - with my stash on the right hand side:

No buying anything in this list for 6 months:
No foundation or powder - Bourjois; Tesco x2; Collection 2000 x2; Clinique; Laura Geller, Sleek.
No bronzer or blusher - Elf bronzer x2, Elf kit, Clarins bronzer, MUA bronzer, MUA pink blush, Laura Geller.
No moisturiser - Clarins SPF; BS seaweed x3; Nivea; Nivea soft x2; Clarins sample; Clinique x2; L’Oreal.
No face masks - Elemis; Clarins; Mudd.
No body butter - Body Shop mango x2, Nivea, Palmers cocoa butter x2, Avon, S&G x 2. Clarins, Elemis.
No bath or shower gel - Radox smoothies x4, remains of Champneys, Avon candy bath, S&G, Nivea.
    No body scrub - S&G x2.
No hand cream - S&G, Nivea, Elemis, Aveeno, Clarins.
No nail polish - I have loads!

No buying anything in this list for 3 months:
No mascara - Rimmel volume flash, Clarins sample
No eyemake up or pencils - loads!
No cleanser - Clarins extra comfort; Clarins extra gentle.
No exfoliant - Dermologica microexfoliant; Dermologica gentle cream exfoliant; S&G, Clarins.
No eye make up remover - L’Oreal gentle; Botanics; Clinique.
No lip gloss - Rimmel bubblegum flavour(!), S&G, Superdrug

I'm not in debt either but want to put money saved on not buying this stuff to weekend trips or to a spa. This challenge will be hard. Things that are in the 3 month category are things which I use more of more regularly or things that need replacing fairly regularly such as mascara.

    Used up today:
Tommy Girl perfume - wiba no. Got it on offer from Superdrug but I have completely gone off the smell! I have another half a bottle of the stuff to use up...

Elemis Pro Collagen Quart lift mask (sample) - wiba no. This was one of those get 5 small items free when you buy 2 or more products. It's an expensive product but I dont think it's worth it.

Body Shop tea tree gel stick - wiba yes. It wasn't as aggressive as some products I've used on spots but I used it on a cold sore and it worked brilliantly.

    Will use up tomorrow:
Laura Geller bronzer in fair - wiba yes, but only when stash of bronzers are gone. Quite an expensive product, about £25 so on similar price lines as Chanel really. But it's a lovely generous size and the colour works really well.

    Night all. :A
:) Declutter 300 things in December challenge, 9/300. Clear the living room. Re-organize storage

I'm not actually in debt. As it stands, I will be mortgage free either a week before or 3 weeks after I am 35.
Many of us have been on this thread since January last year and the overwhelming message that has been sent by every poster is that it is NOT money saving to buy cheap products that don't work.
Most people who have any money issues or are trying to save for something (or pay off their mortgage like me) find that they have lots of unopened gift sets. They are not used because they are luxury items. So we carry on using the items that don't inspire us and make us feel special day in day out.
Why do we do that? Espescially when they have been bought for us as gifts? It is obvious that the giver of the gift thinks that we are special enough to receive a gift so why do we not feel that we are special enough to enjoy the gift?

Personally, over the last year, I have changed my buying habits. I still have a stash and it's not as bad as it was last January. I have worked out what suits my family and what suits me and what I love. Over the next year or two, I plan to try and pin point where and when the best times are to buy the products which I love and use.

I have a fab MiL who shops in boots and gets the £5 off No7 vouchers. She will use these on a 3for2. So if I ask her (like I did a few months back) to buy me the blissful body wash for Christmas, she will. So I have got 3 bottles of body wash that I love and she's saved money on buying it. She had an extra voucher which she gave to me too so I bought 3 for current use. I now have 5.5 bottles of it- which may well last me until next Christmas :D. I have discovered the body puffs!
I'll round up my ins over the next couple of days if I get a chance but there weren't too many. I'm at work tomorrow and Weds night and a funeral :( on Thursday morning so it may not be until Friday though.
I hope you wonderful ladies had a fabulous Christmas and managed to get some days off work?

A UU this evening, S&G flake away. WIBA?: NOOOOOOOO! Don't like the smell of it.

    Jacksxx :lipsrseal .
We got DS an ipod and a docking station for his main presents and I told him it was marmite shower gel :rotfl:. His reply? But I don't even LIKE marmite Mummy :rotfl:. Don't know if he was more excited about the docking station or the fact that it wasn't marmite :rotfl:.
    Laters, ladies :D.

OK ladies, the 30% code expiry and you lot have put me off buying the body butter lol! I do have plenty in my stash...

JustWonderful, I am not in debt - just the opposite, if you read my sig. ;) We are all trying to find our Holy Grail products and buy only those, I have found the challenge very helpful in this regard. I get most of my toiletries via glitches so they cost VERY little and some are even free! Which is why I need to use them up - companies are simply too generous to us sometimes :D

    Jacks xxx - wowza!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl:

  • A UU for me of Herbal Essences Fruit Fusions CitrusLift Uplifting Volume Conditioner 400 ml. WIBA? Yes but this is the old range of HE and so it's probably not available although I have more in stock!

I asked OH to get me 2 packs of facial wipes as stocking fillers for Xmas (as I'm using last pack) and a John Frieda shampoo to match some JF conditioner in stash - gave him £2 haircare voucher to use and so very MSE. I already have plenty of shampoo but most of it is a little boring and I have been without my beloved JF for quite a while. My promise to myself when I am nearing the end of my stash is to try some Tigi (maybe in 2012?!!!). I have also received a large tub of Nivea Soft for face/body/hands. I've now got 2 tubs of this and plan to use it as handcream. I also received a trio of N-Spa Body Butters which smell divine, a Soap & Glory Heel Genius Foot Cream and two Handwash and Handcream sets. I am meeting up with some friends in January to do late pressie swapping and so might have something more to add.

I have looked online at the Boots sale and have resisted so far. Before Xmas I had my eye on the Sanctuary vanity case because I like the case and it is now reduced to £10 but it contains bath cream and body scrub which I don't desire and so I have decided that £10 is too much to pay. I am hoping I can be strong enough to wait until the 75% off sale and if I don't manage to get it then well tough!
