A bit of a rant and a question.....
We've been waiting in all day to get a carpet fitted, We got a phone call on Thursday and we were told the fitters would be here at about 1pm today. We've had to move some stuff outside such as the dining table and chairs as there was no room for it anywhere else. It's now gone 6pm and the fitters have just called to tell us they'll be with us in about an hour because the store didn't open until around half 10 this morning because of the snow so they couldn't collect their notes and the carpet we'd ordered until they were open. The store is supposed to open at 8.30am so straight away the fitters are 2 hours behind.
Where we live in Bury there has only been a slight sprinkling of snow so nothing major but with this happening and 3 people I know who haven't sent their kids to school because no-one was answering the phone when they called to see if they were open first thing this morning, my question is are people just using the weather as an excuse to 1) Get an extra couple of hours in bed or 2) just get a day off altogether? I strongly suspect that people are just using it as an excuse not to do any work or have a nice lay in which is just sheer lazyness.

Yes. One more millimetre and I'm not going to work tomorrow. Should manage to get to the pub tonight though.
Seriously though, it is used as an excuse because it's hard for the customer to prove otherwise. At least they're still coming today - could be a lot worse. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
we've had more than a dusting here, and I had a hospital appointment this morning.
I jsut usd my common sense and called to check the nurse who'd be performing the proceedure was there otherwise I wasn't going to set off just to find i'd wasted my time. She was there and had come a lot further than me, plus knowing snow was forecast she'd got her mum to stay the night before to deal with her kids, so she could leave extra early.
So no not everyone is using the weather as an excuse, but some people will always find any excuse to be lazy xx0 -
Took me an hour and a half to drive DH 2/3 of the way to work this morning - he walked the remaining 3 miles as traffic couldn't get up the hill - but it's surprising how many people called in saying they couldn't get in - and they live nearer to the office than him!
Tomorrow it will be bus all the way for both of us - and if he can't get up the hill again no doubt it will be another snowy walk!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

Careful you could get snowed in at the pub
It's good they are coming today although had I have known earlier this afternoon that it was going to be about half 7 i'd have re-arranged it as I had stuff to do tonight which i've had to put off. Fair play to the fitter though he's got another job to go to after us, think he could be in for a long day.
I'm just getting pretty annoyed that we were up at 7am to get everything out of the way and rip the old carpet up expecting them to be here earlier this afternoon, 12 hours on and it's not even started yet. Think i'd best look through the take-away vouchers as it's looking like pizza tonight instead of cooking when he's gone (There's always a plus side)

We are abour 8 miles from Bury and we had a lot of snow last night, it's not stopped any of us getting to work or anything. I am now sitting in a hotel in the south of England where 1 mm of snow equals mayhem.0

It depends where you live - I'm snowed in and it looks like I will be tomorrow too. But I live in a rural area and have several miles of roads that aren't gritted before I reach a main road on the way to work. I couldn't even get out of the yard this morning, and there's only tractors driving past now.
But it must be very frustrating if the snow isn't that bad with you.0 -
Well the man has been and just left and it all looks fantastic, I felt a bit sorry for the fitter as he looked knackered and couldn't say sorry enough for it being so late. He sais he was at the store at just got 8 this morning and had to wait until half 10 for someone to open up.
Now to start bringing everything back in now.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00 -
well here it is at 10.07pm and I am still waiting for Royal Mail to deliver my post !!!!
I live in Coventry and we had a VERY small amount of snow- nothing major or anything which could hold the postman up- but no sign of him
and before anyone says " well, you might not have had any post to deliver"
I work from home and send all my post out in franked mail pouches which should be returned to me the enxt day - so even if there is a day when I have no mail ( VERY VERY rare) then i should still have my postal pouches- so I am now 10 postal pouches down and will be struggling to send out post tomorrow until I get these back!
I cannot believe that Royal Mail have used this as an excuse not to deliver ( well, sadly actually , i CAN believe it!!)0 -
We've not see a postman round here either today so it's not just you.If At First You Don't Succeed, Call It Version 1.00
