Nothing on the pipe, but there is hot water coming out of it. Where's that coming from?He who laughs last, thinks slowest0

Ha! Pumping Over then! Have you got a magnet? See if it sticks to the area where the cold feed comes down from the F&E tank and joins the main pipework. No it won't stick to the copper but it will be attracted to the solid magnetite thats causing the blockage! If thats what you have then that part of the pipework will have to be cut out and replaced.
Whats the white hexagonal object then?
Cheers

Will try a fridge magnet
The white thing is plastic and has a thread, nothing attached to it though, hence the water coming outHe who laughs last, thinks slowest0 -
Have put it down to 1

Am I right in thinking that the two pipes going up out of the picture come out of the tank in the loft, the one on the left being the open vent(?) which the water is coming out of, and the one on the right being the cold feed in?
Both of those pipes are ridiculously hot. Have ran a magnet over all around that area but it doesn't stick, and feels consistently ridiculously hot if that makes senseHe who laughs last, thinks slowest0 -
Hi,
It would seem to be reasonably clear, but doesn't seem to get much further than the pump.As in post 35 no circulation.
I would be taking the pump head off see what's in there.
I wouldn't suggest you do this as I don't think the pump valves will shut down properly. It could get messy.
I would think someone has capped the open vent in the past to 'cure' the pumping over, except you then don't have an open vent.
Never cap an open vent.
Have you had a new pump this year?

@andrew-b, I don't think I ever did try it without the water on. Will try tomorrow as baby has just gone to sleep so don't want to mess around too much up there
@canucklehead, I have not had a new pump no, only been in the house a year or so and it's never been right tbh. So the pump not working properly would mean the boiler thinks it is hot enough and switches off, then cools down a little and comes on again?
How long would you expect the boiler to come on for at a time? It's never on for more than a few minutes. I can't remember hearing it in my old house, it's only that it's in the front room it's noticeable I suppose
Thinking about it perhaps the lady we bought it off said that her husband fitted a new pump before we moved in, but I could be wrong (her husband was definitely not a plumber)He who laughs last, thinks slowest0
