Hi all,
Got loads of questions sorry, hope someone has the patience to answer
I am revamping my pantry with some new lock & lock containers. I have measured the space between my shelves (just over 30cm height, 22cm deep on one side and 35cm deep at the back) so that I can make best use of the space. I already have a few L&Ls so have worked out that a 1000ml should be perfect for 500g of beans/pulses. Found this site which gives ideas of capacity for some containers but mostly for ethnic foods ....

I am torn between getting the dispenser type boxes for cereal or keeping them in flatter lidded boxes like this...

...as I thought they make make a neater stack and fit more tubs into the available space. Just not sure if I would be making it hard work having to take of the lid every time rather than just pouring from the flap iyswim.Actually I have a spare set of cup meaures that could live inside the tubs so may solve that issue.
The flat rectangular boxes that will fit best on my shelves can hold 1000,1200,1600,1800,2200,2400,3000,4400. I can work out tub sizes for beans using the spice site mentioned above, but I wondered if any of you use that L&L for rice/flour/sugar/porridge/other cereals/(any other foods you can suggest) would be kind enough to share what size tub you use for them. I`m hoping to buy just the right size for holding standard size packets of food without having wasted space in the tubs.
Also does anyone use L&L in the fridge? I have a couple of Tupperware Fridgesmart which are good but may also invest in a couple of L&L if they prolong the life of fresh veggies.
Gah, got a child shouting for supper so may pop back and nag you some more later.
Thanks in advance, will appreciate any help you can give.0 -

I'd go for the lock and locks every time and leave the cerial in the boxes. We do have one of those pouring cerial affairs but OH keep the outdoor bird food in it. So I must have always left the cerial in the box. Its only OH who has the cerial so it must keep OK :beer:0

I have an oblong one with a little slatted tray inside that I use for keeping bacon fresh in the fridge, which is very good, also stops that cooked/uncooked meat storage problem. I suspect it would be very good for cheese as well, but as I don't like cheese I can't very that.
Ooh just remembered I also use it for mushrooms, just about squeeze three big ones in, stops them going dry and wrinkly for a lot longer.
p.s I don't store the bacon and mushrooms at the same time in the same container.:rotfl:Woofles you need to get out of that house. You are going insane:eek: - colinw

I have gradually bought a range of lovely lock and lock boxes which are great for storing stuff in to save waste, and I love them BUT I can't sevise a way to store them so the tops and bottoms stay together. 'People' keep putting them in silly places and often separating them when they dry up and then I can never seem to get them back together again and it's frustrating and very wasteful as then I go and have to buy another one. How do you store your boxes to keep them together ? I have v limited space and am finding this very annoying. (And please don't suggest that I always wash up myself because I still never quite know how best to store them so they don't go astray.)0

I do most of the washing up here - the others do the drying
I've had a similar problenm to you, so now ask that all boxes are left in the area to the right of the drying rack, and I match tops and bottoms and put them all away
Can you nominate a L&L stoarge area and ask the rest of your family to put things there?

Can you ask your helpers to store all the lids in your biggest lock and lock box.0

I have a basket on the top shelf of the cupboard where all the lock and lock lives. All the lids go in there - less taxing for my OH - one simple rule - no matching up necessary for him.
I would never store them with the lids on, and they never seem to fit in nicely and still stack (as much as the old L&L's do stack).
I just match them up as and when i need them - simples!!
PS - my OH says if this house ever caught fire the kitchen would melt cos of all the lock and lock containers LOL"...I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."
