  • One cannot help it if the thing doesn't crash, doesn't get any viruses or just 'works'.....it's just the way it is.

A concise summary of my experiences with Windows 7 ;)

Mine also and I'd like to include XP, Vista and linux in that.

buy a pc then install os x on it, best of both worlds.

That's awfully difficult to do though isn't it? Easier to install windows on a mac using bootcamp, then you can dual boot! :)
    Useful is beautiful
  • As I said - there are advantages with both [you may have missed that bit in your rant at a humble dumba$$ mac user].....

You may have missed that my post was an attempt to say that there ARE reasons for some people to buy a mac. If the only reason you bought one was "PCs get viruses" then I would suggest you'd climbed the stupid tree, and hit every branch as you fell out, however I'd like to believe (and did) that you're reasoning for the purchase was better thought through than that.
I'm very much of the opinion that people can make up their own minds what to buy, it's not my money, and I don't really care.

In many ways I consider macs in the same way as dells and packard bells etc.., boxes for the masses, there will always be a market for such things, bespoke computers aren't what everybody wants or needs, the 'off the shelf' solution, "it just works out of the box" is perfect for most people. Due to wanting to get the very best performance I can for my money I'm forced into the bespoke PC market, selfbuilding and then overclocking my machines to get the best 'bang per buck', something I'd struggle to do with any beige box (or silver...or white).

The "mac vs pc" 'debate' is pretty much a Big-Endians vs Little-Endians in many ways, as, I think, most people know :p

Indeed it is. However, just because the debate is always going to be there doesn't mean you need to insult people who don't agree with you by keeping calling them stupid for whatever reason they purchased their machine.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Fairly straighforward to build your own hackintosh if you know what to do (or know someone who does), plus there are several guides on the 'net.
Apple macs are generally screwed together well, but I'd still rather put something together myself rather than some 11 year chinese girl do it for $5 a month. Plus if it goes wrong, its usually a simple fix, worst case replacement with off the shelf component. IMO, apple osx looks great, but it doesn't offer me anything that windows 7 doesn't. Sure there are security arguments, but thats generally down to user error and ignorance. There's a place in the world for both, and it would be pretty crap if MS or Apple ceased to exist.

You do realise that the components you buy are probably assembled by the 11 year old Chinese girl's older cousin ! (nearly 13 now)
    ;)

Besides, we should get down to the real nuts and bolts of this argument. iMacs and MacBooks look really nice, and for many consumers thats a big selling point. Having something which looks nice when you are dissing your mates on FaceBook is a pretty big deal nowadays :)

Added bold for the hard of understanding, who are so defensive they assume people are mocking their choice, rather than defending/respecting it.
Maybe next time I'll have to see if size tags work as well...and add a little colour :D

If it is hard apple are the ones that make it so.

Microsoft windows XP Vista and 7 are more flexible than OSX though, so its no surprise they works on mac hardware seeing as like for like hardware macs are pc's.

Now for a truely flexible OS that runs on pretty much anything Linux is the way to go;)
