I don't see how any of this is to do with the relationship between me and my girlfriend.

You bought your relationship into it not me, its no my fault you're idea of a good time is to install operating systems with your bird. Its also not my fault you haven't got a sense of humour.
The age old debate of PC vs. Mac came up...
Yep that "age old" one, hang on, would it be more like about 15 years old; not exactly an age.
... when we both got an OS update on the same day, why not test it out? Obviously because we did one thing that wasn't deemed cool by some hypocrite then we have such a boring relationship.
*Yawn* ...sorry, you talking about your relationship again? Really should stop if you don't want people to comment.
How seldom do we weigh out neighbours in the same balance as ourselves: I guess if you are following that quote on your signature then you are comparing my relationship with my partner to yours. I see the remark you made as a sign of jealousy.
Again with the relationship! Seriously give it a rest.

Your opinion of my remark is as valid as any opinion is, but its incorrect.

But I've an open mind, the next time the mrs is reinstalling Vista I'll suggest a race with some linux distro or something, I'm sure it'll bring us closer together:cheesy:.

Actually I'll give it a miss, I'm sure its brilliant though!!!!:rotfl: Soooooo jealous!:rotfl:
Using other people's statements and quotes as your signature make you look stupid. I guess the 'seldom' braincells you have only understand plagiarism and jealousy. Not 2 of the best human traits. :T
What a pathetic attempt at an insult. I'll take wisdom where I find it, even if someone else said it I'm sure they don't mind. PS like my new signature its brill!
Maybe I should be a hypocrite like you and come up with somebody elses quote... "Stealing from one person is plagiarism, stealing from many is research."
You've shown yourself to be a hypocrite already without any quotes, well done. If you feel I've commited some sort of theft maybe you should report me??
Am I as 'awesome' as you now?
No from what you've written its obvious you've had a hissy fit, temper tantrums are never awesome. Did you stamp your feet whilst writing it?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Windows 7 was hardly a whole new OS. Didn't Microsoft drop most of the feature they had promised?

You're confusing some eye-candy upgrades (Windows 7), with what was an extensive rewrite of a previous version (Snow Leopard).

Windows 7 has fooled a lot of users ;)

Mac OSX is just BSD with eyecandy and more security holes.

Of course it will , unless they are sensible to buy on the open market, and ergo don't go anywhere the high street retailers, eg PC World/Currys or Comet. Whereas you fanbois have to go back to Appleworld ;)
I notice that DSGi have now dropped the i (different story though)

Go to an Apple Store or pester someone who owns a machine similar to one you want to buy. Try it. If you like it and the price is right for you, get it.

    In the meantime: *grabs popcorn*.

About the best advice in the thread. I have a mix of everything:

    My desktop runs Windows 7.
My laptop is a Macbook Pro on Snow Leopard.
    Wifes laptop runs Ubuntu 10.04
Sons laptop is Windows XP MCE 2005 (won't let me upgrade it to Win7?)

Each has its own pros and cons but for "general daily use", i.e office work, email, facespace, web browsing, listening to MP3s, watching Youtube etc ALL ARE PRETTY MUCH AS EQUAL AS EACH OTHER.

Big Tam down the road will probably rewire your house for £50. But wouldn't you rather get a proper electrician?

One will have to go back to the genius bar (cringeworthy) for a variety of reasons during its life, but at least you'll be on first name terms with the person who'll be putting it right while still giving you the schpeil about the quality of them to keep you coming back. I think it's referred to as a swindle.

They set out to release the best all round operating system, which they did. Good work I'd say!

It was hardly just 'eye candy upgrades', there's enough technical resources available to hammer that theory into the ground but I expect they'd be of a level too high for you to understand..

This is my favourite thing you've ever posted. The brainwashed Apple fanboy claiming everyone else has been fooled. Good work.
  • There have been lots of threads about this and it seems there are advantages with both PC and Mac computers. Well you wouldn't buy a car without a test drive would you?
So go to a Mac store with a couple of complicated things you most want to do on a computer and have a go. Then go to a PC store and do the same, look at prices, security costs and decide.
Personal choice has a big bearing, just like buying a car. I went for a Macbook and am very happy. If you do the same buy an extended warranty on Ebay, make sure it is genuine , not an online code.
    I love my Mac!!!!!
  • There's advantages with both PC or Mac....however the Mac will just work straight out of the box, won't crash all the time and isn't targetted by viruses, worms or any of those other things that I used to get but can't remember what they are called now that I don't have them anymore.

The only issue with Macs is documents on word/excel aren't compatible and open office isn't as slinky as it pertains to be; so get a student [priced] version of Office for Mac and Bob's your Uncle. :D
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I don't know if I love or hate these threads, most of us here have reached the point where we understand it's 'horses for courses', neither is "best" for everyone, but they're both ok.

But..to pull you up on a couple of your (2) points

So far as I am aware, box-shifter PCs do work 'out of the box' (I self build so not too sure...I get to chose components for performance not...er..prettiness)

Windows based machines are targeted by viruses, but installing antivirus software isn't exactly brain surgery, though I accept some people make it sound like it is. I'm an 'unsafe' surfer, I visit many websites and perform actions that would be considered 'high risk', yet the only times my AV triggers are when I pop onto a site like eicar to make sure that AV is actually on. I fully accept that Macs, with their security features are better suited to people too stupid to see the warning signs or take precautions, though I'm not convinced "Mac...Keeping stupid people safe" is a good sales slogan.

The best, and only truly relevant advice given in this, and the multitude of clone threads was...
