  • owing to the weather forecast and the fact we got caught out last year , we went out and stocked up the store cupboards at the weekend . Bought loads of tinned and dried pulses, lentils and longlife milk , toilet roll , cat food and cat litter . Also spent £9.50 in M&S on reduced items - got 2 packets of lovely smoked salmon, 2 pots of veg soup and some tuna steaks . Both freezers are now rammed full of meat fish and frozen veg. Also made 4 more sugar free, wheat free, egg free dairy free christmas puddings at the weekend , they are meant to be for presents but I may have to "test" one for quality control ;)
It looks like the snow will miss us completely - but they said that last year and we had 2 feet of it on frozen unsalted country roads !
At least if they are wrong this year I can live on xmas pudding :rotfl:

  • Can I join in, please? I haven't visited MSE for *years* - and my bank balance is proof of just how far I've fallen off the bandwagon :o

I honestly don't know how much I've been spending on food/groceries each month; I've just been buying whatever grabs my fancy whenever I happened to pass by a shop.

Does a budget of £110 for the month for one person, including all food and household goods (washing powder, loo rolls, kitchen cleaning stuff) sound like a reasonable start? The only thing I'll exclude is the food & drink for a party I'm hosting on the 11th, which will come out of my ents budget instead. It's really important to me to shop locally for my meat and veg/fruit, and I get my milk delivered by the local milkman, so I think that my costs might be higher than if I bought everthing from the supermarket. However, I don't want to compromise on food quality if at all possible! Am I being unrealistic?
