just rang them about this and you have to have 4mb broadband up to get the free router,

if your like me and are only on the 2mb, you need to upgrade to the 4mb which means taking out another 12 month contract,

if your not on broadband, its £25 a month

Also, I think (according to a thread on digitalspy) that if you're a 4mb customer already and go for the router that you are effectively signing up for another 12 months.
  • Glad some of you are able to get the free router. I didn't know if you had to be on a certain BB package to get it when I first posted but we pay £25 per month for ours. They never said anything to me about having to be with them for another 12 months, he did put words into my mouth by saying I was going to disconnect which I have no intention of.

This is the thread that I was referring to. Note. I don't agree with Woodclanland's comments by the way (the first post in that thread) and there is a bit of flaming in there but read through the thread and see what you think.

Personally, if the 12 month additional contract is correct and you don't mind that then fair enough. But, if it is correct then Telewest should definately make it obvious to the person what they are signing up to.

Edit: Oops, forgot to put the URL in here. Here it is...

  • they never said anything to me about a new 12 month contract, but doesn't matter as i'm only 4 months into my existing contract,so won't really matter

If you're signing up to a new 12 month contract, then it's not worth it because I'm currently on a 6 month offer for £9.99 (as opposed to £24.99) a month which I can extend at the end of the six months.

An extra £15 a month for 12 months for a wirless router would mean it would end up costing me £180.

I would like to know if people getting this offer are really stuck to a contract?
  • Can a contract be enforced without us signing it or anything?

Anyways, does anyone know how I can get upped to the 10MB connection for 6 - 12 months without paying extra? Rather 10MB over a wireless router! Customer for 4 years, and also previous home owners had a Telewest Bluyonder connection.

What bargaining route would I take?! :P
  • well when i was out of contact i phoned about 10 times giving the i'll go elsewhere speech so and so charge this much and i didn't get anywhere. in the end i managed just to keep my 4mb for £18 a month

Called this morning and went through to bill enquiries to see how long the reduction I had lasts- Nice guy said it was on till May and I thought I'd no chance of the router. However, I mentioned it, he said i was eligible as I could cancel my Broadband now- he then called the other department and sorted it- said it was easier than me having to say I was leaving etc.
However, it is a commitment to a 12 month contract and there was about £3.50 to pay. Also they said if you needed adaptors to go in the laptops they would be about £20 each, but we don't.
So thanks OP- I'd never have known about it.

matty_c608, check here, it's a whole topic about negotiating with NTL/TW, as well as notices of their successes (and failures).
    It's the first sticky post.

I would go the negegotiating route, and buy a w-router with the money saved.
On that note, even though I have saved money, I'm still too tight to buy my own W-router. LOL
  • I rung them today and managed to persuade the CS that I was eligible for a free router, she tried to tell me I had to upgrade my package before I was eligible. I argued the point and asked to speak to her supervisor when she decided that I did in fact qualify. And I didnt need to upgrade. I did have to agree to a 12month contract though. I have no intention of leaving them so makes no difference to me anyway.
