if it happened on a train/in a station the BTP would be able to check CCTV. they might not come back with anything though, as they tend to warn you 'the CCTV aint like what u see on TV'. LOL!!!

happened to me with a 2 mnth old HD2 :(

Yep I am considering getting a cheaper phone. Basically my work requires instant access to e-mails and internet so probably can't get away with a super cheap one but I am definitely considering all options.

I just really enjoyed using the iPhone, it's only now that I realise how much I used it: (Sat Nav, iPod walking to work, bluetooth music in car, e-mails on train, keeping up to date with news, working out tube and train times / routes, controlling music system at home, camera).

I think whatever happens, I'll be getting insurance before getting a phone.

Certainly it is possible to do a cheaper phone. The Orange San Francisco (which is unlockable to any network for a couple of quid) might not be the stylish or best phone around, but for £70-100 (depends who you speak to!) you could do sat-nav, iPod, train times. Lots of stuff on here about it. Might be worth a shot to save you a bit of cash for a new phone.

Hope it turns up for you OP, but you say your work require instant access to emails and things why not see if they would supply the phone? if its for work surely they should provide it as a "Company phone"?

Depend what your next "cheap" phone budget is i used to have an LG Optimus (android) and that was basically a smaller iphone, has the app store, email straight to your phone etc there only £90 now.

If you can afford a £500 phone, then you can surely afford home contents insurance?

No, he said 'received it'-payment or not is not specified. But he then said he will have to take £500 out of his Christmas budget to replace it.
So I was suggesting that it might be more 'money saving' to spend maybe £300 of that on some contents insurance and still have £200 for a phone.

When I woke up I used a pay phone at the train station to bar my phone (A friend a few months ago had been hit with a £300 phone bill after losing their phone and I was determined not to let this happen to me).

I'm not sure how they knew it was in my pocket, my wallet was in my trouser pockets so that wasn't stolen. There may be a chance they saw me using the phone at the beginning of the journey or saw it peeking out of my coat pocket.

Although someone else paid for the phone, you're right I should have contents insurance. It's not that I can't afford it but just haven't got round to setting it up after moving house. I realise many people are going think I'm crazy from not having insurance and I realise that it's a pretty bad situation to be in. One of the main reasons I'm so annoyed about losing this phone is that it should have been insured and I only have myself to blame.
