Oh no, it's waaaaaaaaay to early. I couldn't stand to have all that stuff around for 6 weeks or so. Id be fed up by next week if it was up already. I think it takes something away from the real festive period, too. Probably weekend on 11th Dec, maybe later.******** Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity *******"Always be calm and polite, and have the materials to make a bomb"0

ours is going up on friday evening!!!
my two kids are staying at my parents house and she is holding a little kids party for her 7 grandkids- they will have xmassy dvds, party food and be decorating her tree and house. she made up some little stockings for them too with small toys and sweets
im taking advantage of this and while my parents will have complete mayhem, we will be decorating in peace and tranquility to the sound of xmas songs of course!
i was originally going to do it with the kids but i think they will love walking into the house the next morning and seeing it all done, as we're not telling them we're doing it. then we will make paper chains and snowflakes with them which they can hang in their bedroomMummy to ds 29/12/06 dd 10/2/08 ds 25/5/11:Amy angel born too soon 18/11/12, always with me Emmie Faith:A15 projects in 2015 10/15completed0 -
Not yet - Nov is too early for us.
Will be the 10th when ours goes up this year, the day after the last of the presents are bought, then I can start wrapping and stick them straight under the tree when done
You shouldnt put pressies under the tree, incase you get burgled. Makes it a lot easier folr them to nick all your pressies.!!0 -
I'm putting ours up on Wednesday and I can hardly contain myself - especially with all this snow!!0

Mine don't go up until December. As much as I am looking forward to putting them up I intend to hold off because by the time it comes to taking them down I'll be itching to get an uncluttered home again lol. It's nice while they are up though. A real tree for us means we don't get it until nearer to christmas so its just the other decorations that will go up.
HugsWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

i wasn't going to put ours up until December but we're busy for load of weekends, and i ideally would have put it up on Weds but we're busy then too. I've been sneaking the odd christmas decoration onto shelves etc slowly to get the hubby used to it though!
We did decide we're not going to put up the ceiling/hanging decorations round the flat until actual December though. hurrah!0 -

Today i get my advent wreath and candles out of 'storage' though, and shall light the first candle on the wreath to signify that today is the first Sunday of Advent...i shall go on lighting that same candle for the rest of the week until next Sunday when i light the candle that has been lit today and another candle for next Sunday, and so on, until the final candle is lit (along with all the previously lit candles) on Christmas day
I agree.
At the risk of being accused of being miserable etc etc, here goes:
It is NOT Christmas yet. It is Advent. Advent started yesterday, the first Sunday of 4.
We went to an interdenominational service yesterday afternoon at a local church. They hold this service every year to mark the start of Advent, and members of other churches join in. It's a very historic little church: http://www.achurchnearyou.com/ashingdon-st-andrew/
In his address, the Vicar reminded us that Advent is a time of quiet reflection, preparation and prayer. That's why there are no flowers in church during Advent and only a simple wooden cross on the altar, no brass.
So, lights, decorations, trees etc are completely inappropriate and are far too early. When I was a child we brought in the Christmas tree and decorated it on the afternoon of Christmas Eve, and not a moment before.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I agree, decorations go upa few days before Christmas day, get taken down on the 5/6th or whenever it's supposed to be, and presents never get put under the tree until Christmas Eve.
We also don't open any presents from under the tree, until everyone is up, dressed, and had breakfast.0 -
Mine are going up wednesday - they usually go up on the 1st but we won't have time this weekend so will put them up earlier. Plus I'll need something to distract me from worrying about my dog who is spending the day in the vets
I have sorted them out out though so they are all ready. I need to buy silver tinsel tomorrow and thats all(unless I can find some cheap led tealights which I've been after for ages!)
OH finally put up my xmas shelf yesterday - after 6 weeks of [STRIKE]nagging[/STRIKE] requesting :rotfl: so I have somewhere to put my little ornaments this year instead of balancing them on every spare surface.
If we had a real tree the decs would go up about the 1st but the tree wouldn't until about the 20th.0 -

Each to their own!
I won't be putting anything up until December 1st, (not for religious reasons, just attempting some self control for a change!) But I think people should put them up as soon as they feel in the mood, and until it feels appropriate for them, whether that's November or not until Christmas Eve.
Although I could never leave it that long, I wouldn't be giving myself enough time to enjoy it!:rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf: :rudolf:0
