  • I'm with Chev's view on this I'm afraid, but also LT's as a fellow non-parent person! There's a phrase that the rugby referees use - "hit hard, hit early" - basically meaning that you nip any bad behaviour in the bud at the very start of the match, so both teams know that no nonsense will be stood for.

Maybe from now make it a hard and fast rule that NO pictures of your home, cars or possessions get posted on the internet. It's simply a house rule, end of, and the loss of priviledges for breaching this can be set as you see appropriate, but presumably targetting something that will make a real impact on him.

I can certainly understand why you're so unhappy about it - the question will be whether at this point your eldest is old and mature enough to understand this.

Hi uni. I understand how you feel about this even though DD is very young. I work in the care sector so confidentiality and respect of privacy is drummed into us constantly. If you want any info on this (what the law says and just general respect) in order to help him understand why you are upset I will gladly send you stuff (PM me if you want)

On punishment I agree with the loss of privileges especially the Internet. Hut hard hit early is a brilliant way of putting it. Never thought of using rugby to teach discipline. What a clever idea.

I think that is very true - I think as a parent its difficult to get it right alot of the time, but we've always been of the zero tolerance brigade here - never unfair - often a yellow card willl be (metophorically) flashed then a red one then - well thats time for priviliges to be taken away.

In this house first thing to go is 'extra electricity' on a per hour/minute/day basis ie - anything with a battery, requiring electricity cannot be used for a set period of time. They can read and be warm - no phone, tv, computer, internet, ds, ipod etc

    This has worked brilliantly.

It only took one old plug and cable - one pair of big scissors to make sure no one tried to use anything whilst on a punishment time (an old plug and cable - cut through to illustrate the point - eg this is what will happen if you turn it on)

I've also been known to turn off the electricity entirely for a bit, take leads from the back of computer - hide the broadband box (unplugged) and also take away controllers into my secret mum stash.

Even at 16 and 14 (we have our moments) but NO electricity means NO electricity.

When they've pushed - I just pulled harder.

These things are a privilige - they cost money and as such are good to be used as punishments (just like chev said)

Maybe its easier when you're the only parent - as no one can contradict you - but then again you've no one to back you up, so I've had to be strong and hard. Easier with your own kids than stepchildren who aren't use to your boundaries?

Uni you do have my sympathies hope this works out today for you.

Morning all - I slept til half past ten

I read a great thing about sweet potatoes last night and growing your own. Although that didn't induce my coma

i slept late as well, but only because i had such a bad nights sleep. For some reason the minute it go to bed i end up coughing for at least an hour. I can go a while before then when i'm ok. I think it's something to do with the room temperature. though i've had the heating on in the bedroom it's not as warm as the living room which i think 'shocks' my lungs. I could just be making this up though and grasping for straws.

not sure what we have planned today, need to go shopping for some cat litter and veggies. Just realised i've got loads of lemons in the fridge from my cake baking, i don't want to waste them, but i didn't realise that the recipe only called for one lemon per batch. Should have read it before i went out shopping shouldn't i! I wonder what i can do with them, or how long they will last. I know i can slice them and freeze them but i'm not sure i'll actually ever use them in that form as i don't like lemon in water and that's mostly what i drink.

Lemon curd LT? No idea how you make it but it's probably got a lemon or two in :D

(((unixgirl)))))) no idea of what the appropriate thing to do is, but if you're cross and he's already aware this is unacceptable then I (also as a non parent!) would go with absolute removal of things. Good luck, must be difficult xx
  • Lemon curd - or just cut them in half and freeze them - that way you can take out a lemon when needing to do a cake - if you need rind - derind them and freeze the rind seperately and then freeze them in halfs to be pulled out when you need.

Pal came and bought 1/2 doz egg - woo hoo another £1 for the pot and an amazon £4.02

Made a fiver before I even got up!
