    Keiss looking forward to it

Thank you all for lovely comments - will do cooking today from the freezer of delights and get on with more revisions yesterday I got all of one supervisors done and the literature review from my HOD done (that's all hes given me).

I've gone through the whole doc myself on paper so my own changes next - ten references to find and then words to reduce (down to 42567) need be under 40k

Hens to feed - cuppa to have

Washing to go out or stay in can't decide if it will rain or not hmm

Hope you're all great today - didn't get anything done last night at all. Flopped on sofa instead (!)

:) hugs chaps - not much almold cake left - guess that must have been OK eh? Means I've have to bake something else too.

Ds last exam tomorrow - yippee.

Mr LT is doing the typical english sunday thing - going to the tip lol. We're also going to sort out various sheds and cupboards when he gets back so we can make space. We're also going to have a cinema fest later today to use up our free tickets before they expire.

Well done on the revisions Pippi. If HOD only gave you the literature review then that has to be good right? (sorry no clue about PHds.) Loving the sound of the cooking from the freezer by the way. My challenge this month is to do a menu plan, shop for it and stick to it. This is the one month that my money will be tighter than a ducks wotsit. Lots of paying out and costs of trips to Austria ongoing so not sure that I can afford to eat. That would happen on the one month when my storecupboard is completely bare wouldnt it. Mr C says he is happy to live on beans on toast (and he would) but I hate beans YUK!
So I have been pointed in the direction of approved foods but when I looked I have to say I wasn't too sure. Do any of you use approved foods over this fence? Any tips re bulk cooking and freezing would be most appreciated.

Cheri I don't use approved foods due to my distance - TBH unless you don't mind eating alot of branded stuff I'm not sure it saves much - there is a delviery charge. For me its not worth it - but other folk might have a different view.

I get the impression you cook alot from scratch - I'd be meal planning - using lidl for veggies and Mr T or A for basic ingredients and stick to it hard - I'm sure you'll manage. I love beans but alot of folk don't - tinned tomatoes on toast is yummy too?

    :)

Washing up in the house - airer was free - so that made that call

LT curry is yours I'll expect you.............?

    Lucielle - hello!

KC - hope it will all somehow work out......

8 eggs today still (will they ever stop laying??)

Taken some beaten single eggs out of the freezer to make another cake, not that I need eggs just figure they need using up.

We're 'food neutral' in the house - we don't chuck out anything at all, if food comes into the house it doesn't end up in any bin - any scraps get recycled in here first then go out there into the hens tummies. Need to work more on the other stuff (packaging etc) and get that bit down. We don't have much rubbish but its still too much in my mind. I was thinking about this as I was crushing up egg shells this morning from the tray in the oven. We have an old baking tray in there - any eggs used the shell goes into the bottom of the oven on that tray - then when the oven goes on for cooking, they get baked - when there are enough of them - like today - (and I've the inclination) they get put into the pestle and mortar and get crushed up and put into the hen dry food to get those minerals back into them - we could just chuck them back in but this way it seems to be more efficient - but they could go around plants in the garden to stop slugs.

Nice way to use them up and good that even those don't end up in the bin.

Must work hard on the other bits, nice to be as waste neutral as possible

Thanks Pippi, you said about AF what I was thinking. Unfortunately there is no Mr T or A around here and they also dont deliver here :( We only have Morr and Coop and they are both much more expensive than their equivalents in my old home town. I am also never impressed with the veggies there. We do have Lidl and that is where I buy most of my veggies. Thanks for the advice. I am thinking about it today and have worked out if I do a basic idea of set basics on certain nights it will make it easier.
Love your idea to reduce waste too. Call me thick if you like but I am shocked that Hens eat their own eggs! I understand completely the mineral business. Would hens eat the shells without them being baked, by that I mean if they were just left lying around.

Cheri - well you and I are in a similar position except I do have a Mr T - meal planning I hate, but I have to admit it works. Planning several dishes around a theme (ie ratatouie, lasagne, chilli, spag bog - etc) we do that alot and also do alot of veggie based pasta stuff - potato dishes etc.

Hens are revolting - they'd eat anything if they managed - there are two school of thoughts with egg shells - some say if you left them whole or just break them up it might encourage them to eat their own eggs although I've never seen that. I bake them purely because I read somewhere it makes them easier to crush up and helps release the minerals easier - it goes back into their food as powder (well grainy powder) hens really are revolting - I won't write the things I've seen them eat - but bleurgh!

We also do a 'soup tea' night, a 'toast tea' night, a baked tattie night and a bitsa night - most self explainatory - bitsa is just a picnic tea of everything thats lying around.

I also use cupasoups as sauces for pasta etc - cheap and easy to add too.

Make pies from left overs etc

I absolutely HATE meal planning - I prefer spontanous food - but we've saved a fortune meal planning. If I drag alot of stuff out at the weekend and cook it all - we have to eat it - stops those trips to the supermarket when hungry or the takeaway.

I also cook a whole bag rice/pasta at a time and box up the extra for other meals.

Not much use I'm afraid - but a few random thoughts!
