The cinema trip was great, we saw The King's Speech which was fabulous and MrA's a total sweetheart - meeting him tomorrow for lunch at the village pub, lucky me
Definitely need an early night tonight, sleep well everyone x0 -
Pippi if a person was to come and visit you where would the sleeper train need to arrive at in Scotland and how would you progress from there?0

How lovely Kittikins
As far as I'm concerned you can call me Dr Cheery starting nowAs far as the university's concerned, it'll probably be a few weeks :rotfl: but they don't count

Well done Dr Cheery....very impressed!!
Hope you're not being blown away Pippi (and all others north of the border)...a bit breezy today/tonight!!
Ooh all this talk of Scotland is making me homesick!! Actually that and trawling through loads of Orkney cottages online to see if any are available when we want, for up to 5 people and a dog. It's proving a bit troublesome at the moment!!
Life would be easier booking-wise if DS1 and GF were not coming, as 3 people and a dog are much easier to find a place for!! It would be nice to have them with us though, they are both lovely people...but we'll see. They still haven't let us know if they want to come or not...but we must book soon if we are to get anywhere!
On the topic of Orkney, DH found this link, thought you might like it too!

Have the volume up as the music is wonderful...Saylon Dola by Chameleon, never heard it before, but love it!
Hope everyone has a cosy, if not calm night...night, night x

Personally I tend to use Pentland Ferries...it's a shorter journey and cheaper too...and they have a new catamaran!!! It's also a few miles closer to where my dad lives. If you want to see the "Old Man of Hoy", they you will need to get the Northlink Ferry from Scrabster which is a few miles outside Thurso, while Pentland Ferries leave from Gills Bay, 4 miles west of John O'Groats. Ofcourse if you are on foot and going across in the summer months, then you could get the "peedie boat" from John O'Groats itself (17 miles north of Wick). It's the cheapest option too, with a bus at the other end to take you to Kirkwall...and there often is someone giving a talk about the various sights you pass on the way.
Ooh, I have just found out you can get a bus direct from Inverness to John O'Groats, then onto the ferry all the way to Kirkwall!! Problem is, it leaves Inverness an hour before the sleeper gets into Inverness...so you have to hang around Inverness for 6 hours!! You'd be better off getting an earlier bus or train.
It's not easy getting "up north" ....I grew up 9 miles south of John O'Groats, so I should know! It is much better than it used to be though, in places. Just a note...the bus takes about 2 hours less to get to Wick/Thurso than the train!!!
Hope this helps, and I haven't confused you too much!!
Good luck with your travel plans. x
Oh dear...what a lot of rambling tonight from me...sorry!!!

I did get a better job and I'm loving it. So nice to have some money again but I'm left paying for everything and the current situation is draining my finances as he won't realise its not our problem. :j:j:j:jTo the new job, but :eek::eek:to you being left to pay for everything. Why is that happening. I think I have missed something about the current situation.....
We're supposed to be having our own child and thats never going to happen whilst we have this situation going on. Told him he needs to leave it alone and he says he will then does the opposite! Of course there is telling him, and the REALLY TELLING HIM. As in if you don't stop doing this, we will have a problem staying together...
Thanks for the prayers Chev, they obviously worked for the job. Can you ask the universe to take this mess out of my life now?
Hello universe, please let Unixgirls OH realise he is being a total tw*t and needs to realise he is risking losing the wonder said unixgirl, so he better start listening to her soon.
Good luck I hope you can have a 'proper grown up chat' about things, so that he realises what a problem he is causing.
chev
I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

You can go via Aberdeen or via Thurso.
I see keiss has replied with most of other stuff.
There are several routes plane ferry train etc - if booked far enough in advance tbh the plane can often be the cheapest option.
I have a 'how to get here sheet' with all the options.
I can email it to anyone interested!
Uni x - I'm asking the universe for sense for you too
Gusted at it's height at 82 mph last night:eek:

Couldn't sit in living room last night due to the noise and wondering if house would take off.
Hope chickens ok

Glad you survived the night Pippi...it's quite scary when you see double glazed windows wobbling!! I remember not being allowed to sleep in my bedroom sometimes as it was at risk from being smashed into if the greenhouse took off!
Don't laugh, three did over the years!! None hit the house thank goodness!! In one "good easterly" the greenhouse door ended up embedded three feet in the ground 200 yards away in a neighbour's garden!!:eek:
Thanks for including Aberdeen in the ways of getting north...I keep forgetting it, only been there twice in my life...both times on my way to Dyce (the airport)!!
Off to sort out the debri that got blown about in the garden last night..looks like a waterbutt by the greenhouse has fallen over It has a faulty tap, so was likely mostly empty...a ripe target for the wind
See you later over the weekend.
